painkillers? Empty painkillers?

Post by bumblebabe 8th June 2010, 4:26 pm

hiya all, i have been taking co-codamol every 4 hours for the last few days,
but they just make me want to go to sleep then if i do i wake up half hour later in the same pain,
should i try ibuprofin cause it has anti inflamitorys in it? instead of the co-codamol,
or is there any other ones that will help with the pain and not make me feel so drugged up,

I wasn't allowed to take ibruprofaen as it can thin the blood. Maybe give your clinic a call and see what they suggest.

I had Tramadol which was great. Was told I could take Ibuprofen though although not at the same time as Tramadol.

My anaesthetist told me that I shouldn't take ibruprofen the first few days because of the risk of haematoma but that after that it was fine to take it along with my co-codamol. I've been taking that and the pain has been manageable.

But I'd defintely call your clinic and double check with them

Yup, I'd just give your clinic a quick call too Bumblelady, just to ensure your surgeon thinks you're OK to take the Ibuprofen, I think I was about 4 days post-op when I started taking it along with paracetamol as the co-codamol was just making me constantly sick, so my surgeon said it was fine for me. xx

After about a week I started taking Ibroprofen and regular paracetamol as, like has been said, co-codamol made me feel sick.

Once you've got it confirmed by your nurse you'll be fine to take both together.

I took tramadol too. If you don't like co-codamol then I'd go with regular paracetamol and ibroprofen like roxy said. x

I took co-codamol to begin with but I was so poorly post op that any drugs apart from paracetamol made me more sick. I had to make do with paracetamol in the end but I took it every 4 hours for the first 10 days.

I've taken Tramadol once (a few years ago) and it made me very very drowsy and I was sick as it's very strong. I've been too scared to take it since!

Tramadol does make you drowsy. A good combo for you, when you've asked your ps, would be simple paracetamol and ibuprofen. They won't make you drowsy. You need to take paracetamol every 6 hours and ibuprofen every 8. Take them at the right time even if you feel you don't need it as it is easier to prevent pain than to relieve pain. Ibuprofen also has a cumulative effect and it's anti-inflam action will be better three doses in than after the first dose.

Maybe keep the co-codamol or tramadol for night times so you will get a good sleep ( or at least a better one)

Thinking of you xx
