when do the tapes come off

i was wondering, i had my op on friday and wondered when the plasters that go over the scars underneath and side ones were the tubes were come off,
my surgion is away all this week so i will hopefully see him early the week after,
what do they do on the 1 wk check up?
i cant wait to get the plasters off they pinch me badly and make my skin hurt,
i have tried looking at a mirror of them and they are very red were u can see part of the scar,
i havent touched them and havent got them wet even though he said they were waterproof,

When is your first post op check lovely? I had waterproof plasters too and kept these on until my first check (second time around I pulled them off myself though as they were irritating - I'm not advising you do that though!)

When I had my check at about 10 days the nurse snipped my stitches and changed my steri strips. These came off themselves after about a week or so which was when I started using rosehip oil.

i think i could handle it better if it was just the steri strips, these water proof plasters are driving me mad, there so tight and itchy,
im totally paranoid about infections also

Hey - i had my op 10 days ago and had my first check up today, the surgeon took all the plasters off and the steri strips that i had on...I had a nipple lift & implant so had plasters underneath and over the nipples so I was really pleased to finally see my boobs in full today!!

Im sure your surgeon will take the plasters off at your first check up.

Does anyone know if i can shower properly now...??? I think the surgeon said i could but i wasnt listening as I was too busy looking at & feeling my new boobs!!

can shower but make sure you pat dry your scars.i was told they need to be dry as possible

no it didnt hurt at all really..it was over in about 5 seconds, so thats good! :) They felt a bit werid without them on actually but im getting used to it now..im going to shower but just be really careful!

The surgeon laughed at me and said 'they wont fall off' cause think my face looked worried when he was just about to pull the plasters off...ha!

I kept the big plasters on for a week until my check up where they just replaced the plasters for the micropore tape. I was allowed to shower after the first week but I am still wearing the micropore tape now and changing it every few days.

when they take the tape off on the first week check, what are the scars like? are they dissolvable stitches?
if you pulled the tape off wouldent it pull the stitches?

Morning! Yes i had dissolvable stitches so think the plasters were just to protect the scar for the first week.

I couldnt believe how small the scaring was although i have been told they can get slightly red & may change a bit over the next few weeks, however they are 99% better than i thought they would be, my OH couldnt believe it either!

My surgeon had the nurse remove my dressings from the first night post op and put small ones on as he said he had seen some horrible blisters and skin soreness caused by bigger dressings - I guesss they are pulled and don't stretch as easily as your skin when the swelling starts, so your skin gives and blisters.
It might be worth asking if the nurse can see you b4 next week to change the dressings to smaller ones, you don't want to risk blisters or any soreness as it will be a potential site for infection.

i have spoken to them today, i am seeing a dressing nurse on friday for her to check the dressing, not sure if she will take them off or just change them,

I had my check today and had the dressings taken off and replaced with micropore tape, I was given a roll of it to replace the tape if it falls off with for the nwxt two weeks. Most importantly, I can have a shower!

I reckon your dressings will be removed on Fri!
