Hi Girls,

I had my 1 week check yesterday with my nurse who told me that my right breast was healing beautifully but my left breast wasn't quite healed yet but there was no sign of infection. She has put steri strips on both wounds and advised not to shower until tomorrow :(

I'm just a bit concerned as she said I still had quite a bit of swelling and therefore wants me to come back next Friday for another checkup on the wound and my swelling. To be honest I thought the swelling had gone down loads compared to when I first came round from the op and I've had no pain whatsoever. Does this sound normal to people and is there anything else I can do to relieve the swelling? I'm taking Arnica and I have to say I've had no bruising at all!

Another question.....my right boob feels a bit harder and I sometimes get a burning sensation in my nipple when I first wake up and stand up and also if I bend over. My left boob is lovely and soft...is this normal???

Sorry for all the questions!!!

I think it's normal procedure to arrange a further appointment for patients who are not quite healed at their 1 week post-op check babe, we don't all heal well enough to be given the OK at 1 week sweetie, some of us just need a bit more time, so try not worry, it's good that the clinic are keeping check on you and your progress.

Your right breast given that it is more swollen than the left will feel firmer babe and the sensations you're experiencing all sound perfectly normal hun.

Try using icepacks or a bag of frozen peas on your boobs to help reduce the swelling and when you shower hun, don't use any shower gel or perfumes or lotions or oils near your incisions, just allow the water to run over over them, nothing more until they're healed and ensure they're thoroughly dry afterwards, I used the cool air from my hairdryer and just gave them a gentle blow till they were dry babe.

Hope things settle down soon hunni and if you're at all overly concerned about anything, just call your clinic hun, it's what they're there for. xxxxx

I think cookie has given you some great advice which I can't really add to. We do all heal at different rates and your sensations feel perfectly normal.
