Sleeping on my side Empty Sleeping on my side

Post by *Hannah* 27th July 2009, 1:14 pm

I've heard about having to sleep on your back for a while, rather than on your side. I wanted to know is this because it can be uncomfortable, or is it because it's important for the healing process?

At the moment (5 days post-op) I'm finding it more comfortable to be on my side, but will this do any damage?

Thanks!

Try and stick it out Hannah for a little while longer to get rid of that swelling.

Maybe have a lil lay on your side for comfort x

I can't lie on my side yet without discomfort, I did a little this morning and it was OK but I need to start out sleeping on my back to get a good nights sleep. I'm hoping it doesn't last too long because before my BA I would always sleep on my side or on my front!

Its to reduce swelling so its quiet important to sleep on your back even though it isnt very comfortable.

You should be fine to sleep on your side in a couple of weeks hun.

I sleep on my side now but slept on my back for a good few weeks after my ba. Found that propping myself up with more pillows that usual helped although this isn't always possible if you have someone else in the bed with you! My dog sleeps with me and she doesn't mind!! Hysterical

I was told to sleep on my back, propped up to reduce swelling, I usually woke up lying quite flat though, I started turning on my side at around 3 weeks post op when it felt comfortable to do so x

I slept propped up on pillows for 1 week and had aweful backache after a while. My ps called to check up on me at 1 week and said it was fine to sleep on my side. Should be fine, even now I prefer sleeping on left side and feel my right boob will heal funny...but they dont :)

I'm still on my back. Even though i don't normally sleep on my back i'm finding it more confortable. Tried to sleep on my side but felt very uncomfortable and a pulling sensation!

I'm gonna continue on my back for a while. Plus with having unders maybe it's all in my mind but i feel being on my back and more up right gravity perhaps helps to keep those muscles in place even with the strap lol :)

I'd try and stick with the advise your hospital gave you chick.

Yeah I agree with the girls, i have been told to sleep on my back propped up for 2 weeks, currently using a 'v' pillow (bought from argos) and it is a god send!

Did find myself trying to turn over in the night but pressure on the side of my boob soon had me on my back again! Ouch! :pale:

Sleeping propped up on my back isnt half as bad as i thought, worth persisting hun if it makes the swelling go down quicker.

Hey lovely.

Try getting loads of pillows and surrounding yourself with them. Also, put a pillow under your knees and sleep with your legs slightly raised.
