Question about the pre-op Empty Question about the pre-op

Post by Lucy106 26th October 2015, 5:26 pm

Hi girls,

I've not yet got a date for my pre op yet but I don't expect to hear from the hospital about that for another month or so.

It's with the Nuffield. Question is to you all.... How far in advance of surgery is it generally. Are we talking days or weeks? Need to work out how to get time off work.

Also do they take blood tests? What will they actually do?

Xx

Question about the pre-op Empty Re: Question about the pre-op

Hi... I went with the Nuffield... My pre op was the week before... It only lasted about 30 mins... They did height, weight, blood tests and swabs... That was about it I think... Sure it must be fairly standard for everyone

Hope that helps xx

Great thanks hattie! It's terrible as my work Christmas party is end of Nov and it's always a long messy affair which goes on all night. I'm worried that the content of my blood will be entirely vodka if it's so close to that!! Ah well - what can you do! Xx

Can't believe it's not that long until Christmas, now you've mentioned it !!

I'm sure I got my appointment through a few weeks before so you would probably be able to change it if need be xx

Question about the pre-op Empty Re: Question about the pre-op

Post by Charlii 26th October 2015, 6:57 pm

Not all pre-ops are the same. Mine was literally a phone call asking my next of kin, and my last blood pressure reading, and that was about a week before my op. On the morning they took height, weight, medical history, and a urine sample. No bloods, and no MRSA. Every hospital is different.

I would try and ring and find out when abouts it would be, and if you can come in pre party if it falls around then. Alcohol can last a lot longer in the blood than you think, 2 pints on a Friday was affecting my liver levels on a test on Monday. You need to be 'clean' for about a week for a true reading. That is if they are taking bloods from you.

Question about the pre-op Empty Re: Question about the pre-op

Post by Contemptuous 26th October 2015, 7:18 pm

Mine was done the week before, but then my BA was moved forward due to a cancellation so I don't know when it would have been if I'd kept my original date.

I went with another hospital group (not Nuffield) and my pre op consisted of blood pressure, weight, a blood sample and MRSA swabs.

Hi it could be blood pressure, blood test or even two. Swabs, urine, weight, they all seem to do different things. They may do one blood test for a group and save which means Incase you need blood during the op, and one for a full blood count. Xx
