Bra buying is so hard!
So I'm having a bit of a nightmare finding a bra that fit's comfortably AND looks good! I'm not able to wear wires for another three weeks, but I'm a bit worried that when I do have the go ahead, I'm going to find them a little uncomfy (and I'm going on hol so I'll need bra's, not sports bra's!).
So I've been looking out for some simple wired bra's to buy in a few weeks time, and nipped into Boux Avenue, Debenhams, JLewis, Ann Summers. And they are pretty much ALL saying something different.
I've been told I can only wear plunge by some places, and balconette by others. I've been told the clasp should be on the tightest at some places, and loosest on others...I've been told I'm this size, then that... But one thing they've all agreed on is it's hard to fit me at the moment as it's early days and my breasts are still sitting in a very firm/perky position....
I'm very grateful to have these wonderful new boobs but oh my, it's sooo much harder than I thought! I imagined myself waltzing into underwear shops and breezily picking up a 32DD and leaving, I was wrong!

- Boux Avenue measured me at 32DD, but then another Sales Assistant in there put me in a 30E. Surprising, as the lady who put me in 32DD had her boobs done too, and when I said 'It's not really sitting flat against my ribcage, should it be on the tightest clasp?' etc she basically just said it's fine. I asked another Sales assistant for a second opinion who THEN put me in 30E!....
- Debenhams measured me at 32DD but the girl was pretty useless. She was only young so I think she was a bit clueless!
- Ann Summers put me in a 32D, I looked like some kind of busty barmaid/pornstar but she insisted I 'definitely wasn't a DD/E' like the thought of it was ridiculous. Needless to say, I looked ridiculous!
- John Lewis put me in a 32E sports bra (lovely fitting experience by the way) and I'm yet to have a proper bra fitting.
- Marks & Spencers had me in a 32DD sports bra which made me look very busty, whereas the E felt a bit big...
- And Bravissimo 30E/F!

Re: Bra buying is so hard!
Haha! Not easy is it! I have two bras in the same range from new look, ones a D and the other an E! That's why you have to try them on every time!
Let's set one thing straight though - new bras should fit on the loosest clasp ideally. This is so that as it stretches through wear and wash, you can tighten it. But there gonna be bras that fit better on the second. There's no hard and fast rule.
It's going to be tricky fitting them while they're still so new. Mine didn't sit in the cups properly, they weren't squishy enough to pour into them. For me, Ann Summers in 32DD fit amazingly, and are so comfy. Sod what the girl says, try as many shapes and styles until you feel right.

Re: Bra buying is so hard!
Hi, all makes of bras can come up different sizes. I just picked one shop for my fitting as well. Boux avenue fitted me into there bras. I only need to know my back size as the cup will differ from shop to shop. The back size is the most important to get spot on. Boux avenue got my back size spot on and the clasp should be on the loosest clip at first until the bra gives. Xxx

You will be different sizes in different shops and brands but perhaps have a read of a good fitting guide and with that knowledge and the knowledge shared by the fitter when you have a decent fit somewhere like bravissimo will help you know what fits, and what doesn't. And you'll also know when the assistant is totally clueless!!

Re: Bra buying is so hard!
@Charlli It’s crazy how you have two different sized bra’s from the same range. Just goes to show how much they vary hey! Yeah I thought it was meant to be on the loosest., everything I’ve read up until now has confirmed that too! That’s good to know you had problems in the beginning too, mine deffo don’t seem to fit the cups perfectly and I think it’s just because they’ve still got a lot of changing to do! Thanks for your advice J
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Thanks for the advice! Yeah overall favourite experience was Boux Avenue but I was still a bit confused why she had me in a 32DD even though the 30E fitted better. I sent a pic to my mum of the bra I bought in a 32DD and she was all ‘take it back! It looks bizarre!’ so after all that I’m gonna have to return in. The quest continues!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Yeah really good advice, think I need to carry on swotting up on my bra blogs so I can start judging it myself. Thanks lovely!

Re: Bra buying is so hard!
I tried loads on the other day Hun.... M&S, next, Debenhams.... Walked out not buying any as none seemed to look or fit right. Gonna wait a bit longer and try again, I think once they soften a bit more it might be easier finding them to fit xxx

Think I'm gonna do the same @mudyypaws
It's so frustrating! I've decided my boobs look best naked haha! Sports bra's seem to flatten them and bra's just don't look how I imagined just yet...
NAKED ALL THE WAY LOL!

Go with it! Couple nipple pasties, you'll be ok! They're still gravity defying at the mo, so why not!! My mate commented the other day that I really didn't need to wear one! (I think he was just ogling though!!)

Re: Bra buying is so hard!
Mine took what felt like forever to settle & soften enough to fill lower part of bra as boobs should, even now some bras just aren't comfy.
When I find a style that looks good & is comfy I tend to buy them in every colour/ pattern, would still rather have trouble finding a bra than not having boobs to fill one any day!

Did you try those none wired ones from Debenhams Hun? I bought a couple more as they are the only none wired ones that seem to be 'boob' shaped rather than cone shaped if you know what i mean, and because they are moulded on the cups they are protecting my nipples which are so sensitive right now lol.

Re: Bra buying is so hard!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I did try them yeah, the exact same one you are wearing in your avi actually! Wasnt pleased though as it didnt seem to fit properly and had a real big gape against my chest rather than sitting flat. In the end I just got the Debenhams own soft non wired. Comfy, but SUCH UGLY bra's lol!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Haha exactly!! I think I'm gonna end up going braless the majority of the time on holiday in the evening and just use them nipple covers. They are so perky and 'HEY I'M HERE' still I sometimes feel like a bra isnt even doing anything!
@[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I think that's what I'll end up doing when I finally find a bra I like and fits properly, buy it in every colour!!!!

Re: Bra buying is so hard!
Aww that's a shame Hun. just shows how different we all are though, there's no one size fits all. I'm sure we will get there in the end, I think I will find it easier once they soften up. I can't wait to get an underwire on as when I tried them, even though they were uncomfortable I did feel much more supported. Few more weeks and I will try again anyway xxx
