How long does it tend to be before you can drive post op? Or does it vary for each person/surgeon?

Thanks x

The usual time frame is a week this does differ though maybe 7-14 days depending on surgeon. Also you need to listen to your body I didn't drive till around 2 weeks 2nd ba as I was pretty uncomftBle and didn't feel myself for a good few weeks after. Also check your car insurance as you need to make sure you're covered

Changing gears and hendbrake and reverse can be a bit uncomftBle and hard at first x

I'd say 2-3 weeks.. I know some girls drive after a week but I think that's too early x

I was told 2 weeks and not before. They said it was because of all the things mentioned by mrs ball above.

Even now when driving I don't cross my arms, I do it the way we are taught so I'm not exerting..a bonus I spose coz were not meant to cross our arms when turning the wheel :)

I was told I could drive when I felt ready. I did a short journey (less than 5 mins) on day 6. Day 7 I drove myself to my one week check. All fine reverse and fifth gear not easy though x

Legally you cant drive a) for 48hrs after due to GA and b) until you can safely and comfortably perform an emergency stop. Your surgeon should advise also. But like I say, just coz you are allowed, doesn't mean you can. I waited 3wks until I was due back in the office, and it was hard work. Auto's are definitely going to be easier, as are newer cars, and you have to re-learn to feed the wheel! But you'll know when you're ready.
