Where should I go to get measured?
Hello, hope you've had a good weekend xx
I'm going to pop and get myself measured properly before going for my 2nd sizing consultation on Monday evening and wondered where's the best place to go pre BA. Should I just go to M&S?
Thanks
xx

M+s are renowned for being wrong. Best place is a bravissimo, or any Specialist lingerie store. Boux avenue is a popular one too. Where ever you go, make sure they DON'T add 4/5" to your band size, as this is an old method designed to fit women into an average size bracket. Your measurement is your band size, eg I measure 31 so wear 32.

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
Don't Bravissimo specialise in the 'larger' bust? Think I'd feel draft going in there with my rubbish 34b. What about somewhere like La Senza?
I was wondering whether the differing sizes in each shop was because they measured you to fit their own bras which may vary in fit??

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
I've just measured myself and I'm a 32 inch band size and 34 inches across the bust. The website I used therefore suggests I'm a 32b rather than the 34a/b I wear.
To be honest I'd be surprised to be able to fit into a 32 and although I haven't bought a bra for ages I previously struggled to feel comfortable in a 34 never mind a 32!
What happened to adding 4'' to the band measurement?

Adding 4" is wrong. M&S, La Senza, Ann Summers etc are all rubbish at measuring. Definitely Bravissimo or Boux Avenue x

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
These shops cater for all bust sizes so don't feel silly for going to get measured there. I went to boux avenue today but wasn't sure on their measuring technique as she more guessed the cup size? xx

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
Adding 4 is a marketing scam and has had women in the wrong size for years. It puts a lot more women into a smaller sizing bracket, which mean stores don't need to carry as many sizes and can save money. Eg if I add 5" for an uneven, I'd be a 36c, and could walk into any asda, matalan, and buy a bra. But it wouldn't have any support, as my true size is actually 32ddish.
Different stores will fit differently too, which is why it's always best to get fitted rather than measured. Even within the same store it can be different, I've got both dds and es from Boux, and even an e and a d from new look!
La senza are awful too. Debenhams or house of Fraser are ok for dept stores.

Be wary of debenhams well especially the one I went to they added the 4/5 inches on band size when I went there even then completely wrong size was given xx

I might give House of Fraser a try and La Senza just cuz close by and then I can compare.
Wee Lou - do you think you would fit into a 30''? I can't imagine wearing a 32 when I've always worn 34-36! I can't help but think it would be uncomfortable. Just goes to show though.

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
MissyM im not sure! Seems a big change. I feel it on but its not like doing anything jst sits there, I don't need a bra haha its just for some padded cups I always buy cheap bras from primark too, this will all change and il go for measuring once iv had my BA and get the best of the best! Its confusing how some places add and some don't. xx

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
M&s come up small, I'm a 29inch band but fit their 32 band really snugly.
Boux avenue cater to all sizes and staff are trained to be extra helpful etc x

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
Sounds like the +4inches depends on the shop then as some measure small. I've only ever bought bras from cheap shops so that's probably why I have always needed to add to my band measurement. Looking forward to buying some quality bras to show off my new additions though :) :)
Thank you all as always xx

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
Just echoing the above really.
John Lewis are very good, take their time, very helpful.... you may benefit from making an appointment, mine took approx. 20 minutes- 30 mins.
Bravissimo as I understand it fit in the same way as John Lewis.
John Lewis are also very good with returns and their customer service is FAB if you have any problems, they also Pricematch!

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
Just looked at the fitting guide on Boux Avenue website and they add 4inches to the band measurements too
I measure 32inches (81cm) under my bust. I wear a 34a/b bra. The Boux Avenue fitting guide tells me I'm a size 36 bra.
Now I'm confused!

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
Where does it say that on the Boux site? This is why you need to be fitted, not measured.
I'm 31" under bust and thought thatd be way too small, but once you're fitted correctly, it's so much more comfortable. I do need a 34 sometimes for material with less give. Also remember that you should be wearing them on the loosest fitting when new. So that as this give and stretch with age, you do them up tighter.

Have a look at the 'How to Measure Yourself' video at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
All of the measuring guides I've seen so far still add the 4inches. I think I just need to get myself there in person. Not sure how brave I feel going to a shop specialising in the larger bust pre-op though. Think I may stick to House of Fraser or John Lewis and take it from there.

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
Hmm, how very strange. Well, they didn't add it in store, and a lot of girls vouch for their fittings. To be honest, I wouldn't trust any measurement guides online, even from reputable lingerie brands. I can go through 5 different 'guides' and come up anywhere between a 36AA (which they're clearly not) and a 30F, so there's little stock in any of them. The only way to be sure your bra fits is to have it fitted. This doesn't mean you need an assistant every time, as once you're familiar with their technique, and how a properly fitted bra feels, you can judge for yourself.

Re: Where should I go to get measured?
Just plucked up the courage to go into Bravissimo and they confirmed they couldn't do a firing/measure cuz they don't go lower than a D. Embarrassed! On my way to John Lewis.
