Implant shape and sizes
Hey, I've noticed most of the pre BA ladies on here seem to know what shape and size implant they will be having. My surgeon says he will decide on size and shape during the op to see what suits my frame best (also consulting with the surgical team) - is this normal??

Re: Implant shape and sizes
From what I've seen personally, girls always have an idea of sizes even if the surgeon has not chosen a specific one because its based on the look your after as well as what your surgeon believes is achievable? I remember one member quite a while ago who had the same situation and she rang in and was given a size range so you could maybe do the same if your worried? That's just from what I've seen xx

Re: Implant shape and sizes
There is a HUGE difference between 180cc and 700cc so I certainly wouldn't show up on a surgery if I didn't know what size I will wake up with.
Anatomical, cone shaped, high or low profile is created to give us the opportunity to have the look of our personal taste.
Some of us know exactly what size and shape we will have on the day of surgery and some other ladies here know around what size they will have +or- around 50cc.
But I have never seen anyone who doesn't know at all what shape or size they will have.
My opinion is that the surgeon should guide you to make the best choice of size and shape and you will make a decision that you're both comfortable with.

Re: Implant shape and sizes
I wouldn't say it is normal - yes your surgeons opinion on size and shape is extremely important, but so is yours. There are so many variables, you may want a particular "look".
Have you given your surgeon any idea on size and shape that you would like? Do you have a date for your surgery? If not I expect this will be discussed in your next appointment x

Agree with previous posters, although the surgeon will give you a professional opinion of what is right for your body/shape/frame, they will discuss with you what you are looking at first, you should never go to surgery unless you are sure of what the aim of surgery is !! Who are you considering surgery with ? Xx

Re: Implant shape and sizes
Have you tried any implants on during your consultations? Seems strange to not have an idea of size outlined before you pay all that money and have the surgery. I wouldn't have faith in the surgeon giving me exactly what I want xx

Re: Implant shape and sizes
Who is your surgeon and which clinic will you be using Willow?
If its through the NHS this isn't uncommon at all, but as suggested by Jen, a call to the clinic to get an estimated resulting size for you to be able to buy sportsbras for your recovery should be given by your surgeon.
If you're going private Willow I'd make an appointment for another consultation. Your surgeon will have their own preference for the type of implants they use, whether that be Allegan, Nagor, Mentor or Pure. These are the most commonly used in the UK. So your surgeon should be able to tell you that at the very least so you can research the implants you're being given and size... Well, not even thr greatest of surgeons can ever guarantee a size hun, but they CAN give you an estimate. Maybe explaining that you fully understand size cannot be guaranteed but that you would prefer an estimated size so you can try some rice boobs or possibly some sizers at the clinic if they have any to see if YOURE happy with the size and also you'd like to know which implant manufacturer your surgeon uses might just push the surgeon to give you a little more back... After all, this surgery is about YOU Willow and what YOU want from it, not so your surgeon can decide on the day what they like for you. Its YOUR money babe.... Get every penny out of it and make your surgeon work for it by helping you pre-op so you can feel more comfortable having researched your BA plan on the build up to your big day. Xx

Re: Implant shape and sizes
I'm having my surgery privately, but by a breast surgeon as opposed to a plastic surgeon - don't know if this makes a difference, he is going to remove a lump at the same time. I spoke to him today and again he said to trust him, I asked him if he was going to use round or tear drop and he said round, but if that looked wrong teardrop..... with regard to sizing he said again that will be decided during the op. He is a lovely guy and I do trust him, just feel I'm not getting much input. I'm not seeing him now until the op - do you think I should take some pics with me of what I'm looking for??

Re: Implant shape and sizes
Who is your surgeon Willow?
If your surgeon isn't on the specialist register for plastic surgery then he is NOT qualified to be performing this surgery. He will have NO insurance should anything go wrong hun, so PLEASE think VERY carefully before allowing a surgeon not qualified in plastic surgery near you. Xx

Re: Implant shape and sizes
Can I ask why you choose this surgeon? Is it because you need to have a lump removed?
Is it possible to have him remove the lump, let that heal, and then have plastic surgery by a plastic surgeon?

Re: Implant shape and sizes
On the right of the GMC register HERE you'll see a link that reads "check a doctors registration status"
Then type your surgeons name and it will list their qualifications and whether they're on any specialist registers. Xx

Re: Implant shape and sizes
His name is Mr Mussa, as I say he is a breast surgeon - I had my initial consultation with him at a private hospital because I have a lump, because I am very small breasted he said removing the lump will distort my breast so suggested a breast augmentation at the same time

Re: Implant shape and sizes
I could find only one surgeon called Mussa on a specialist register. He is on a specialist register for 'paediatric oncology' so although in his real life job works on children, on his private practise he must do oncology there too which qualifies him to remove 'the lump' sorry you're having to deal with that hun.
There are however NO Mr Mussa's on the specialist register for plastic surgery hun. Xx

Re: Implant shape and sizes
Sorry misspelt his name it is MUSA - he is on a specialist register, says he is a oncoplastic and aesthetic surgeon - is that the same thing as a plastic surgeon??
