Warning - Do NOT ignore any lumps
Dear All,
It has been about 6 months since I posted on this site.
I had my BA 10 months ago - I loved loved loved the look of my boobs (eventually). And I really did feel it was the best thing I had ever done.
I did have an issue with my left one - as the feeling that it was moving around when I would lean forward lasted a long time. It wasn't until November last year that this symptom started to settle and I was SOOOOOO pleased. I kept thinking, I'll soon be able to come back on here and tell Cookie and all the others that supported me with this issue that it had finally fixed itself - and offer hope to those that might have experienced the same - healing can/does take a long time.
Sadly, that is not why I am posting today. November last year I felt a really small (smaller that half a pea - yes that small) lump just behind my left nipple. I looked up cancerous lumps on the internet and it stated that one reason for non-cancerous lumps can be due to implants. Stupidly, I thought that my lump was probably due to my implant and the healing that was going on. In January I decided to get it checked out 'just in case' even though it was so small - I would have bet serious money that it was something to do with my healing.
I found out that day that I had breast cancer after a mammogram and ultra sound. I was then told I should have an MRI just to check behind the implant - this later revealed 4 more tumours!
I had a mastectomy on the 18th March - how sad I was to see my new lovely boob go - but the cancer went with it. I was lucky enough to have immediate reconstructive surgery (which will never look as good as I did - but hey at least I DID have the boobs of my dreams for 8 months).
My reason for coming back on here is to just ask you ALL - please please please do not ignore the smallest lump, thinking it could just be an odd part of your healing - it may be - or it may not.
Luckily for me - my implants probably saved my life. The implant pushed the small tumour at the front of the breast out so I could feel it, I doubt I would have ever noticed this with my pre-BA boobs (even my consultant agreed with that).
I hope you all enjoy your lovely new boobs but please keep an eye out and look after yourselves.
I am extremely grateful for all the support I received on this site pre and post BA - I wish you all the best.
Much love x x

So pleased you are cancer free now, how scary. One of the questions I asked my surgeon at consultation was about breast lumps as my mom had breast cancer in 2011 and he said the same as you, the implant would push everything forward and you would feel any lumps earlier.
Thank you for sharing xx

Oh my goodness, that must've been such a difficult time you've had. I'm glad you were able to be treated and hope you never have that worry again.
Very scary that there were actually tumours behind your implant aswell though. Thank you for sharing your story with us, it'll certainly make me more cautious with any changes in my own implants. x

Re: Warning - Do NOT ignore any lumps
I am sorry to hear of your cancer diagnosis hun, but I am so glad that you did go get the lump checked out. I agree with you it is the most important thing to check our breasts regularly and go get any lumps checked out. I believe you are the 2nd lady on here that due to having implants noticed the lumps very early on, she also made a full recovery.
I hope you are healing up well and I wish you all the best.

Re: Warning - Do NOT ignore any lumps
Gosh that is very scary. Although it sounds like you were really lucky to get your implants when you did. That was probably the best money you have ever spent I would assume. Congrats to now being cancer free. xx

Re: Warning - Do NOT ignore any lumps
Thank you for sharing your story. Really pleased that you caught the cancer in time and you're recovering well. You sound very up beat, its reasurring to hear your story. Before my surgery my ps insisted on a full check up where they found a lump in my right breast. It turns out it not cancerous but I need to keep an eye on it and have check ups every six months. If I hadn't had implants I also wouldn't have known about the lump and the need to have regular follow ups. Wishing you continuing good health x
