cosmetic surgery in the news
dont know if anyone has seen or read it in the news but theyre trying to bring out tougher legislation on hard sellinf, want 1st consultations to be with the surgeon, want people to have to pay for consultations, want to end discounted surgeries etc. Theres loads on there and think it is well worth a read because it seems to be coming through quite quicklyx x x x

I would like them to tighten up on the qualifications and skills that some of the 'surgeons' have to offer xx

Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
I completely agree but i dont think people should be charged for consultations. Women get second opinions to make sure they have the right surgeon but if they do this maybe we would only be able to afford one consultation? I know people have to pay for some now but i just disagree with it being made compulsory x
Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
I agree with Kay 100%! I think they are going about it the wrong way. Surely by making all clinics charge for consultations they are just increasing their profits. I'm not sure how some of these new rules are actually going to protect those who want to have surgery or how this has anything to do with making sure we never see a situation like the disgraceful PIP's. Its like the government (or whoever) just want to be seen as doing 'something', but their focus is way off point.

This has been in the news for some time now - see [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I'm glad that consultations will charged for.... I think this will actually encourage women to do a lot more research before just diving in and having the procedure done. If a consultation is going to have to be paid more then its going to be taken a heck of a lot more seriously than it is now with the free consultations given by the larger commercial clinics now. The free consultations make the commercial clinics a lot more competitive at the moment, charging as much as those who do charge for consultations and the consultation price does come off the surgery price if you choose to have it done.
I should imagine a second consultation within the same clinic would be free though and if it isn't.... It should be!
Right now cosmetic surgery is being very much glamourised with TV commercials, group on offers, free consultations, all the trimmings laid out to lure women in!
I'm actually thrilled to see that 'MAJOR SURGERY' is now being taken seriously! And I think the new laws will also encourage women to take it seriously too. Ts not just a 'Boob job' its surgery that can change your whole life and in the wrong hands it can be devastating! Xx

Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
Hi girlies
I paid for both my consultations and they were with my surgeon both times , I thought everybody did the same ??
I would feel very worried to just book with a receptionist and go under the knife not even seeing my surgeon so I guess these guidelines must be a good thing xxx

Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
I totaly agree with the points you have all made about a ba being very invasive surgery and should be treated as such and not like booking a hair appointment. However I'm concerned about the paying for consultations. With my 1st ba I paid £150 for my consultation, which lasted about 10mins-I didnt get to try on any implants and profiles were not even discussed. I was very foolish and naive and proceded with surgery. For my 2nd ba I had a further 3 consultations, 2 being free and £25 for one. I actualy saw the surgeon I chose a further 4 times for free before booking my re-op. I think information is very important and wish all girls thinking of having a ba could be made aware of this forum. Recently my friends workmate has had a ba and she is heartbroken-she looks very like Victoria Beckham as her surgeon informed her that he only did overs and no surgeons did unders anymore! I think the whole cosmetic industry needs looking at and regulated more.

Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
I had no idea you had to pay for consultations! I went with Transform who I guess are one of the massive companies who do it free to get people in the door! I only went with them as they were the only one I had heard of at first... Looked at a few others but like the sound of Transform.
I hope they don't charge a huge amount for a consultation as lots of women have more than one so it bumps the costs up even more! I only had the one myself and was happy to go ahead after just the one.

Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
But the risk you run in charging for each consultation is that a lot of women will just go to that 1 consultation because they cant afford the second opinion. The clinic i went to the appt was with a surgeon anyway but dont think i would go to a clinic if my consultation wasnt with the person that would be doing the surgery x
Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
i paid £100 for my first consultation with the surgeon then i seen him again and it was a further £100 but in the end they took it off my total price and I got another £600 off cause I took a date at short notice but i didn care cause it was with the surgeon that I wanted xx

Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
I paid £120 for my consultation but any additional consultations with the surgeon were free of charge. I also had 2 free consults with MYA and they were terrible lasted 5 mins and I felt like a piece of meat.. they just wanted me in and out as fast as possible.

Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
My surgeon was great it was a free consult i got the time of my consultation wrong so was 3 hours late but he still saw me. I was there with him for an hour, he answered all my questions, tried on a few different sizes and he explained the whole procedure and why he recommended anatomicals and was just genuinely honest. He told me he wouldnt do unders on me because with my tuberous breasts i would get double bubble and if i was adamant i would have to go to a different surgeon which i appreciated =] i then went to see the patient co-ordinator and was with her for about 20 minutes and the surgeon even hung around in case i was needing swabs taken if i was booking there and then but didnt feel pressured at all =D x

Exactly xx They haven't really thought about it properly or put the right things in place xx

This is my concern as well xx it's completely the wrong approach xx they could of done 100 things other than this that would have been 100 % more effective xx

Re: cosmetic surgery in the news
It is a shame =[ and i know personally that if i had to pay £200 per consultation then i would be having one consultation and that would be it. It wouldnt be enough to stop me from getting it done but it would greatly limit my options. Why dont they ask people who have had BAs what thwir experiences were with their surgeons and clinics? X
