any ideas?
hey girls
I know I've already posted about this before but I'm getting really down about it.....
My ba is booked for 3rd july, but I have no-one to take me/bring me back from the highgate! Mya just quoted me £280 odd and thats only transport home! My friend says she cant cos of her child care issues, my mum doesnt drive n my dad has just had an op and cant drive for 6weeks so thats not an option either. I really really dont want to cancel just because I cant get there and back! Its getting me down cos I cant see a way around it.
I do have other friends but there dotted all over the country and a few of them are gonna be away when I have it done.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas? I live in cardiff and I've only been to London once on a college trip so I dont know my way about and I really dont fancy getting the tube before or after the op!
thanks for reading xxx

Re: any ideas?
hi nat, I dont know why they are so expensive I think they use transport that highgate provide so that might have something to do with it.
Does anyone know if nation express have any stops close to or in highgate?

Re: any ideas?
Aw hun, i would have helped you if i lived nearer too, this must be so worrying for you, you can't jump on a train or bus by yourself to go home, you'll need support chick xx
just found this info online when i googled regarding National Express at Highgate for you, as you can see it's not relatively easy for you after having a BA hunni

I presume you mean Highgate in London. If you get the train to
St.Pancras, you can get to Highgate easily on the underground, but that
means going right into London and back out again. Highgate is in north
London. Maps of the underground system are on the walls at every
station. The best way may be by National Express, because some of the
London coaches stop at Golders Green which is only short distance east
of Highgate. Bus or taxi from there would be ok. The nearest station to
Highgate on the train from Luton is Cricklewood, which is a few miles
from there, and you can get local buses to go to Highgate. Too far for
a taxi,unless you're very rich,haha......The link shows a map of
Highgate road, and lists the underground staions nearby. Local streets
are listed at the bottom of the page. I would choose the
coach, personally, but at least you know there are choices. Won't be a
big problem either way........................................ I tried
the tfl (Transport for London) link but all the options it gives take
you via St.Pancras, which is the longest and most expensive route.

Re: any ideas?
Did you check with local taxi companies hun? They may be able to give you a better price. My Dad's friend in Swansea was doing runs to heathrow for £150 last year (though he's gone under now! ).
Other than that why not ask them for the address of a hotel or B and B nearby and stay over for a couple of nights before you travel back on the train? might be a bit cheaper than paying the £280 ...

Re: any ideas?
If you book early you might be able to get a train up to London, then a taxi to highgate.
Then book a hotel and get a lift back?

Re: any ideas?
A female friend of mine from Swansea may be able to do it for you for alot cheaper than you've been quoted, she works shifts so is going to find out whether she's working on the 3rd July & get back to me, I have offered to meet at Highgate on the day to wait with her while you have your op & then see you both out of London on your way home so will see what she comes up with X X

Re: any ideas?
SS!! You are a STAR xxxx
PB I do hope you manage to enjoy your day babes without extra worries about transport!!!!!! I had lots of travel too on my own I just turned it into a positive feeling and enjoyed it!!! I had a train, cabs, and flight. I was extremely exhausted and nervous of people bumping into my new friends ...but I would do it all again. However, a little girlie support would have been sooooooo good!!!!! Thinking of you. xxxxxx

Re: any ideas?
Hi hun, I would give you a lift but I'll be on holiday that week, so sorry hun. I hope you can find a way. there's a few good private taxi firms that do airport run and other journeys. Just have a google for them near cardiff. Should be able to give you a decent quote.
Re: any ideas?
thanks misf1, I googled some taxi frims but I duno if its gonna work out more than mya quoted me. Hmmm this is really getting me down now & my pc has been on the phone this morning, she even rang my house and I dont remember giving her my house number. I'm determinded this is going to stop me going through with it though! x

Re: any ideas?
I wish I could help but I live in the middle of nowhere. I am going be in the same position as you I will have to get there on my own, just praying that my friend will come and meet me the day after otherwise I will be stuck. Can't your mum come and meet you after and go home on the train.
Just cant believe it cost that much for transport home, do they calculate based on how far or is it a set cost?
