Dr Mario Russo suspended by GMC.

A millionaire cosmetic surgeon who appeared in ITV reality series The Only Way Is Essex has been suspended by the General Medical Council while his work is investigated.
Dr Mario Russo, who has also featured on Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies and a string of cosmetic surgery programmes – earning him the nickname ‘Dr Boob’ – was suspended at a GMC panel meeting on May 29 and has not been allowed to work as a doctor since.

The 49-year-old Italian-born doctor, who is married and lives in a £2 million home in Virginia Water, Surrey, works at Highgate Hospital in North London and other clinics in the capital.

He recently appeared on The Only Way Is Essex removing the low-grade PIP breast implants of model and DJ Lauren Pope. Before the operation, Dr Russo, who is in high demand for breast enlargement surgery, was filmed giving the 28-year-old advice on the controversial implants. Afterwards Miss Pope described the surgeon as a ‘hot guy’ when he paid her a bedside visit.

Yesterday the GMC said: ‘Dr Russo has been suspended from the medical register while we carry out an investigation.

‘When we finish an investigation we can close the case or we can refer the doctor to a public hearing. We cannot discuss the reasons why he has been suspended.’
The GMC has the power to suspend doctors if it considers they pose a danger to patients while allegations of misconduct are investigated.
Often doctors under investigation are allowed to carry on working under supervision. Full suspension only happens if a doctor is considered to pose a serious threat to the public.
Last night, worried patients due to have surgery with Dr Russo voiced their concerns on the internet, saying they had not been informed about the suspension.

One said: ‘I was expecting my surgery with him next week. Why have I not been told. It’s very worrying. Does anyone know what he’s done wrong?’
One of the clinics Dr Russo works with is called MYA. It said: ‘This relates to a newly revealed but historic fitness-to-practise matter pre-dating his working relationship with MYA. We are currently contacting Dr Russo’s patients.

I read on a website that it was something to do with inapropriate behaviour, n im guessing something to do with his patients otherwise they wouldnt have felt the need to suspend him surely?! Glad i havnt had/havin surgery by him. X

I wonder why! I had a consultation with him and was really close to booking with him until I met the amazing Mr Hassan.

Mr Russo was the surgeon i was booked with him and i had to choose a new surgeon on saturday and i am now having Mr Fallahdar who seems lovely. It was all very stressful choosing a new one after everything was booked and planned but i have been looked after well and given a good discount for the trouble caused as i had to change date and hospital. xx

I had a consultation with him and thought he was more bothered about his sunglasses than my boobs! lol so glad Ive booked with another company!

I recently heard that Mr Russo was back at work and yet... The same story that was printed about his suspension is being recirculated in the press today. See HERE.

He must still be suspended for this to be recirculated....if he did go back to work I feel sorry for the girls who have been once again left without a surgeon.

He is with THG for sure as I had an app booked with another surgeon who was unable to make it and saw Mr Russo instead.

They said he had been working in their Spanish clinic, but obviously didn't say he was suspended!

Needless to say I didn't have my surgery with him.

Mr Russo walked out on THG back in 2011 I was meant to have my TT with him and just 1 week before surgery they told me he had left ,they said it was due to family reasons but that was bull as one of the lovely lady's told me the real reason to why he left. I wouldn't left him touch me even if it was for free to mush of a bad rep steer clear I'd say xxx

He did my uplift and implants on end essay and was brilliant if his aftercare treatment of patients is what caused the gmc suspension that has all improved he is very intentive and even seeing him the dirt week post op as well as the nurse x

I now know why he was suspended. A girl I work with has PIPS and she went to see a new surgeon yesterday with a view to getting them replaced.
She told me that she went to a clinic above Amy Child's salon in Essex and that her surgeon was "beautiful". Before I even asked her who it was, I knew what she was going to say!

Apparently he's no longer suspended and apparently he wasn't suspended for doing anything wrong in terms of his actual work or procedures carried out....
