Cant stop smoking :(

Hello lady's I gave up smoking for 5 years and now I've stared again its been a month but I cant stop due to nerves of my BA & its in 14 days time will this effect the out come if I stop tomorrow? or IS IT TOO LATE ? I'm really worried :(

Mr hassan wont do a ba if you smoke hun?...is that who your going with...it does slow the healing process a bit.

Hi there sweetie yeah I'm definitely going with Dr hassan and he did say if I smoke he wouldn't operate on me :( I'm defiantly going to stop in the morning just worried if 2 weeks prior would be enough?

good luck quitting hun, I found it sooo hard, it's definately for the best though especially for the healing! xx

Do you have electronic cigarettes in the UK? If you're having a hard time quitting, try those. My sister uses them and they're supposed to be a lot better for you than regular smoking. I'm not sure if it'd help at all, but it's worth a shot!

Hi, i have got my op on 17th october, but my ps didn't say anything about not smoking? is it mainly because of the GA? (im having local) but if it delays the healing process i guess i'd better cut down/stop!!

why did he say he wouldn't operate?? xx

Lolly pops lol yeah I should :) thats a good one I look really young with out make-up and I'm 5ft can you emagine what they woul be thinking when they see me with 20 lollie pops sucking them one after the other hahaaha the thought of there faces makes me wana roll over :) xx

My PC advised me to stop smoking for 2 weeks before & 2 weeks after my op. I'm sure you'll be fine, I know it's hard but just remember why you're doing it. x

The particular surgeon wont operate if you smoke, because of the chances of problems i think, as far as im aware he doesnt have many girls come back to him with issues and i think he likes to keep it that way, Mr hassan is very ocd about his work so i think thats why he doesnt like girls smoking.

hi hun, i cut down to 1 or 2 a day a couple of weeks ago, then stopped totally a week ago.
Best of luck hun, its worth it, smokers are 10 times more likely to have complications with ba than non smokers.

Thats why our surgeon wont do it if you smoke, because of the risk of complications, so glad im no longer a smoker, I gave up when i was pregnant with my oldest boy who is 6 soon.

well done hun. Once you've been a smoker its really tough to stay off them, especially in times of stress. Good for you xxx

Thank you lady's for your support and ideas, it's my 1st day of none smoking :) trying to think of positive thoughts I know if I have done it before I can do it again its just that all this drives your hands to a packet but none for me todayyyyyyyyyy ! :D

Yes this ba buisness does bring a lot of stress and emotions most definatley! There is so much to think about isn't there, which to be honest you never really think about while making the decision to have it or not.

I totally agree with you there, even though I had my little Hick-ups but
I 'm so over that now, what ever will happen will happen. As long as I do what I'm told I think I'll be fine. ; )

I wasn't able to give up smoking, but I didn't smoke too many for the week before and then none at all for 1 week after.

The problems with smoking before/after op are:

1) constricts blood vessels - prevents proper healing of incisions
2) Possibility of a clot during/after operation
3) Increased risk of capsular contracture
4) increased bleeding during operation

probably many others too. If you can quit, do so!

Just so you know - these risks are due to the NICOTENE so you shouldn't use the electric ciggies or chew the gum/use the patch or anything - if you're planning to quit that is!

Every time you fancy a fag put 35p into a jar... it'll soon add up and with the money saved you'll be able to treat yourself to some lovely underwear. I gave up last year and by putting the money somewhere I could see it really helped. Good luck hun x
