Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
Make sure you're getting up and walking around periodically, staying stationary can bung you up hun, along with your need for pain relief at the moment.
Get yourself mobile, eat plenty of fibre and start reducing your pain meds as soon as you feel ready, if you don't feel you need them, don't take them and if you feel you can reduce to paracetamol, then do that.. it will all help in getting you back to feeling normal again sweetness. xxx

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
ah, i think the tramadol seems to bung everyone up!! poor you. i can't understand why the post op girls are given tramadol, it seems to cause constipation, bloating, depression, tiredness, etc. i was given a pain relief patch on my arm that i wore for 48 hours post op. was just on a couple of paracetamol after that. i had no side effects from the patch. i think i'll ask the resident doctor james about this tramadol stuff, and see what he says.
i'm sure the girls will give you some tips on what to take to help you 'go'.
take care x x x x x

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
I had this problem, was in real discomfort with my belly.
I took senokot every night even though it didn't work straight away. What worked for me was replacing my prescription painkillers with normal ibuprofen, after one day of doing that I had a poo, and very lovely it was too!
Just take your prescription ones occasionally when you need a bit of extra pain relief.

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
I didn't go to the toilet until 9 days post op, I was so uncomfortable!!!
I'd suggest getting some laxatives. I got some called Ex Lax from Waitrose. You take them at bedtime and then they work in the morning.

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
I was on tramadol too..still am! I found that I had to take double the dose of senna (asked a pharmasist and said this was OK as a one off and since I hadn't been to Loo in over a week.) I found trinking lots of hot water and lots of tea sweetened with sweetner helped. Cos after a while the poo has been sat in your bowel a long time and dries out...minging I know! When I went I went loads in one night and it was like giving birth. Lol! x

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
Sorry but thats sounded so funny.
I had this problem when i was pregnant so i know that it can be very painful to. The move you move around and drink loads of water the better. I'm sure once you go there be no stopping you and then you'll be all lovely and skinny. When you get blocked up like that you can 't eat or i couldn't.

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
I had the same problem hun. Keep taking the senna, it doesn't work straight away, lots of water and I find massaging the left side of my tummy helps. Sounds yucky but you can feel your bowel just above your hip, if you're bunged up it will be easy to feel and massaging can help move things along.
I stopped the tramadol pretty quick other than nighttime but kept on the paracetomol during the day for about 5 days and took about a week before I went. Feels great when you do go and then you'll have a nice little tummy again!

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
Hi Huni,
Congrats on your BA
I am dreading this constipation issue, as I'm not really a 'goer' as it is!
I posted a topic on here and got some great advice. Senakot was one, eating pineapple was another. Also one girl told me about a herbal drink called 'smooth move' which was the best thing she's ever used.
Why not nip into Holland & Barratt and see if they have any herbal tea type drinks that make you go?? Drinks seem to work better than tablets for me.. hope you 'go' soon xxx

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
i didnt go for about 5 days after my BA. I think it was the co-dydramol.
Anything with codeine in it causes constipation.
Stuff like dried apricots, linseed sprinkled on muesli, theyre all good to get you moving again.
Also strong coffee :)

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
I wasn't given Trammadol and am exactly the same Lorrs, I haven't been yet either took some senokot last couple of days and still no joy. I only took co-codamol on day 1 and I had paracetamol on day 2 and nothing yesterday and today so its just one of those things unless the antibiotics have something to do with it. x

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
aww hun i was like this too it's soooo uncomfortable but it shouldn't last too long. Maybe speak to a pharmacist they might be able to give you something a little stronger than senna. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg and drink plenty of water and it won't last too much longer! x

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
oh Hun,
I think most people go through it, especially if you are taking pain killers, mine came with a big warning on saying may cause constipation. Make sure you keep your fluid in take up and ear lots of fruit and fibre. I took Senakot in the end.

Re: cant go to the toilet!!!!
I am pre ba so I dont have personal experience yet with this... but I used to be a nurse and as most have mentioned the narcotic pain relief (I think u use Tramadol) does cause constipation but the actual surgury itself, being put under and such causes the bowel to slow down even stop... while we need to take it easy walking around is important to getting things "moving" again, drink LOTS of water, and eat lots of fibre I personally find eating dried prunes excellent!
I hope u r feeling better soon!! Congrats on your big day!!
