Dreaming under GA
I was in work today talking to my friend about GA's and wondered if you dream whilst under?
Everyone i've spoke to or seen posts regarding a GA say that you feel like you were asleep for seconds so i'm assuming you don't dream.
Are you in that much of a deep sleep to dream?
Jem

Re: Dreaming under GA
I dont think you dream as you have to be in REM stage to sleep and with GA you're just unconcious, like if you bashed your head and was knocked unconcious you wouldn't dream lol, its really weird as it feels like no time has past x
Re: Dreaming under GA
I don't remember dreaming and it did feel like iI was asleep for a very short time, however I must have been dreaming about something even if I can't remember: as they woke me up I was talking abut having to do my laundry lol! so I must have been dreaming about washing clothes

Re: Dreaming under GA
I don't remember dreaming at all. It seemed that one minute I was awake... the next asleep... and the next back awake again!

Re: Dreaming under GA
Well I have had a few g.a.'s and do not remember dreaming - it's not easy to explain - kinda like someone tells you ...you will be asleep - you are - and none the wiser!!! Oh ..but it is good to sleep - enjoy!!

Re: Dreaming under GA
Phew!! I'm glad you are all saying the same about the GA.
Have got this uncontrolable phobia about not being put to sleep properly and no-one notices and I can still hear and feel everything. It's the only thing that bothers me.

Re: Dreaming under GA
I dont remember dreaming either. It was just like needle in, ouch, anesthesist said you'll feel drowsy, i started to feel tired and like i was nodding off. Then a cold running went through my throat & through me and i was asleep. Around 2 hours later, i woke up half asleep and very confused, didnt know where i was and who was around me. I just kept saying is it over, are you sure, etc. Its weird!
I thought about that thing about feeling it but not being able to say etc as ive read about it in a magazine before i had my op. But its soooo rare x

Re: Dreaming under GA
That will never happen hunny, your anaesthetist watches very closely. Theres been too many films on that stuff and it scares people x
Re: Dreaming under GA
You're telling me Nads, i'm petrified of it!
Think i'll have to stick a note to the top of my head that says "Make sure i'm asleep"

Re: Dreaming under GA
Dont worry they knock you out good n proper and give you enough to last long enough, i remember watching him inject it with my head up and he said you'll start tasting something now and my head just swung back and i was goooone!!!
Re: Dreaming under GA
Hey hunni
I've had 3 GAs, and you don't dream while under, but with my third (the BA, I must have been in recovery for a while still sleepy, because I do remember dreaming then, but only for a couple of minutes. But I was most definitely in recovery and people fussing around me.
Don't worry about the GA hunni, they do make sure you're out completely.

Re: Dreaming under GA
The GA was good!! The anesthetist was just chatting to me as she put it in the canula and then I said 'whoa I can feel that' as I could feel a druggy rush (my youth was not completely innocent I am afraid!!) and that was it!! I came too and had a moan at the nurse to tell her boss to shut up as she was having such a shout at all her staff!! I said she was getting on my nerves!! She was being so rude to them!
You do feel like it has been seconds though. I was out of it though as when I got back to my room I had a full on giggling fit about nothing..............it was good! I was pretty nervous about having it but I needn't have been - don't waste any time worrying about it Jemmy. Just think of it as extra sleep xx
