Spires pre-op
I'm wondering if any ladies who had their surgery through Spire can help me please.
I'm due to have my pre-op on the 17th. Now ive just been reading my letter and asked a while ago on here about hidden costs and was told there weren't any, but upon reading my letter again it says that the price is a guideline price but it could be more if I need to see a consultant anaesthetist.
Was this written in your letters also? Was this discussed at all with you at your pre-op if you had one?

I wonder if it's just a standard mail shot letter sent out?
If you've been told no hidden costs then there won't be any x

That's what I was told by members 'here' as I said , when I asked here a while ago, but I'm wondering if they recieved the same letter?
Re: Spires pre-op
Just checked mine. It quoted the hospital fees for the procedure and stated consultants and anaesthetists are independent practitioners and will be invoiced directly. My letter from the surgeon then included the breakdown of his and the anaesthetist fees.

I don't have that letter from the aneasthetist and the surgeon.
Ohhhhhh I'm so worried now that because of my health conditions it's going to get in the way of my surgery going ahead and if it can...how much more will it cost?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] did you have to go for a pre-op babe?
Re: Spires pre-op
I'm certain the price quoted to you (was it in writing?) will include everything. If you need to postpone due to health reasons I don't see why that would cost you anything more? It would be unethical of them to force you to have an op when it's not medically possible? A clinic would probably try to milk something, but I very much doubt a hospital would.
Wouldn't you be seeing anaesthetist anyway? Or is mc god qualified for this?

Re: Spires pre-op
I was supposed to have a pre op assessment but I couldn't make the dates so I got my surgeon to contact the hospital and he said I was fit, healthy, gave them my weight and height and they agreed to waiver it.

I probably didn't make my last post very clear - sorry hun.Mammamia wrote:I'm certain the price quoted to you (was it in writing?) will include everything. I don't mean I'd have to postpone for health reasons or that spire would charge me for this.
I mean that the hospital may postpone until I'd seen their anaesthetist. My pre-op is on the 17th and my op on the 27th so only 10 days to get it sorted if necessary.
Yes, it was in writing. The letter says that the price quoted is a guide price, I may have to pay more after the pre-op which is free if I have to see the consultant anaesthetist.
I'm in bed just now, but I'll copy the letter to here tomorrow so it's clearer because I don't think I'm making much sense lol. X

Re: Spires pre-op
I did wonder if I'd misunderstood you!! I think your process must have been different to mine then. Maybe it varies by hospital despite all being spire. But I would think it's a conservative clause added to protect them and rarely used . Maybe phone hid secretary x

Re: Spires pre-op
I've just spoken to Caroline, Spires clinic nurse. What a lovely lady she was.
She said if have a complicated health condition then it's possible they need to send for the consultant aneasthetist to come and have a word with me to go though all my meds and how my illness affects me. She does feel it's very possible I will need to see them, mainly because I can't have regular anti-biotics after catching C-diff in hospital last year.
It's going to cost me the price of the consultation which is around £150 along with additional cost should I need extra time in hospital or medication beyond. The norm, but she said not to worry about that, she doesn't know of anyone at all who's had to pay for any of that, only to pay the aesthetist.
Feeling a little more relaxed now but not convinced yet this is going to happen to happen on the 27th. So nerves are gone now till I have my consultation on the 16Th. And I. Need to find another hundred and fifty quid beans on toast till Christmas it is! Lol. Xx

Re: Spires pre-op
Hi cookie I went with bmi and I had to do the pre op thing. Urine and 2 blood tests. They now take a second one to have a blood group for you iin case you need blood during or after surgery. Because I don't have other medical needs I only had to pay for the anethiatist and the surgeon during theartre. That was broken down separately. Xxxx

Re: Spires pre-op
That makes sense cookie. Sounds like they are being very responsible so at least you can feel assured that the man putting you to sleep knows you inside out! Even if it does make you £150 poorer! Make sure you let us know how it goes....will have everything crossed for you!
