Curiosity - seeing nurses rather than surgeon?
I'm not very knowledgeable about this at all as I only have my own experience to go on but I seem to read a lot about seeing nurses instead of surgeons? I have only ever seen my surgeon and spoken with his secretary, he is a consultant nhs plastic surgeon with a private practice of his own that he runs out of Spire. He has never turned me away for a visit or charged me outside of the op price - it covers all related consultations before and after. He even examined me years after my first op twice while I wss pregnsnt ad I was concerned for boobs welfare lol and twice more again this summer before I even mentioned having a revision and didn't charge me for any of it. If I want to see or speak with him I just call his private secretary directly and she books me in for a visit or a call no questions asked. Is this not the way it usually goes? He is a BAAPS surgeon if that makes any difference? Sorry, just curious and would like to have a better understanding.

Re: Curiosity - seeing nurses rather than surgeon?
I've experience non BAAPS/BAPRAS surgeons (large clinics) and a BAAPS surgeon and have when using a non BAAPS/BAPRAS surgeon have always seen a nurse for dressing changes, even when having problems with wounds.
When dealing with a BAAPS surgeon (I went private) I saw only the surgeon and he was only ever a few clicks away from me on a keyboard of I needed him and if I wanted an appointment I just called his secretary and it was done. Not having to explain my reasons to a PCC why I needed to see the surgeon outside of planned appointments and then waiting.... And waiting.... And waiting for call backs lol, nope. Just one call -job done!
Its a far more personal service with a BAAPS member I've found. Xx

Questions are fine Rexie!
A PCC is a Patient Care Co-ordinator.
This is a saleswoman that stands as a middle man between yourself and the clinic. They're essentially there to keep the patients placated so the clinic themselves do not have to have any dealings with the patients. Xx

Oh right, thank you! Not 100% sure I like the sound of that but I guess they are trained in the knowledge they need to do that. I didn't realise there were so many different ways that clinics/surgeons do things! Thanks for educating me! X
