I mean...if you've already had the op, or can't actually be bothered to physically research your own surgeon/clinic procedure/implant type/personal aftercare then it's a bit late to think about all that now. K
Like I said it shouldn't take this post for girls to realise they need to actively research, making informed choices especially where your body and physical health is concerned is absolutely imperative.

Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
Gah! Not trying to dispute what Cookie is saying nor have I any doubts that she ALWAYS has our interests at hearts! I'm just saying that a private surgeon who has never worked for the NHS may not be on the specialist register - especially as plastic surgery is not huge in the NHS (tends to be general surgery). For example, if you went for a knee op at the Spire, your surgeon may be the best in his field, but not on the specialist register if he hadn't applied for a NHS consultant job post 1997. Same goes for boob jobs.
It goes without saying that you need to get a reputable surgeon as tragically there are so many botched jobs, but what I'm trying to say is that just because your surgeon is NOT on the register, does not automatically mean he's irreputable if that makes sense? Sorry, if this is garbled, have had a very, very long day xx

Same here, all I'm saying is be smart girls, and really everyone should have done their research, it's scary to think people just go to a consultation and that's it, no research, no questions, no finding out more about your specific surgeon...especially now we have the absolute life saver that's Google haha x

Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
You're right... If you've already had your op, then what's done is done, but if not and someone can't be bothered to research their surgeon themselves then if they'd like, either myself or any of the mods here would be happy to do that for them. Prior to surgery its never too late.pinkprincess881 wrote:I mean...if you've already had the op, or can't actually be bothered to physically research your own surgeon/clinic procedure/implant type/personal aftercare then it's a bit late to think about all that now. Is K your initial?
In an ideal world this would be true... But we don't live in an ideal world and there are women that come to us that 'trust' in what they're told and feel they need do no more until they come here and realise there's so much more to having a BA than they thought. We do place so much emphasis on research.Like I said it shouldn't take this post for girls to realise they need to actively research, making informed choices especially where your body and physical health is concerned is absolutely imperative.
So threads like this ARE needed lovely. They give those that may not have realised surgeons need specific qualifications a gentle nudge to just check for themselves or as I said the Breast Buddies team would be happy to do this for them
Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
I know what you're saying Flower but we as a support forum must follow the guidelines given as stated by the NHS and as you read, those suggest a surgeon on a specialist register for plastic surgery or a speciality to do with breasts and as I stated in the opening post. If they can't find anything they can always call the GMC and check, this too the advise from the NHS. Xxx
Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
Haha no L is my initial or R depending on my name or nickname, k was a typo, I'm on my kindle and it can't keep up with my typing sometimes and even likes to throw in whole random words or phrases..so a lot of my stuff is full of typos.
Yeah I understand what your saying, I wasn't trying to be funny, I was just trying to say girls need to be smarter overall about this, a lot of it is basic common sense after all, regardless of the professional Look of a company, a surgeon, their package, prices etc you still need to dig deeper....I was nhs, I knew the surgeon I had been assigned, and I still went away and researched him to find I could not have picked a better one personally for me, but if I wasn't happy, I had the right to request a change of surgeon (I couldn't be specific about which one, but, once I had been given a new surgeon, again I would have researahed and done the same if I wasn't happy) I wasn't having a go, I don't feel like I said anything that wasn't right or irrelevant.
Obviously it's good that you put this up so people know where to check, but with the same token if you're prepared to do all this to your body, and hand over ALOT of money to do so, then the least you should do is a bit of digging around Google to get a bit of a better picture of not only your chosen surgeon, but what else is available, other surgeons, packages, different implant types etc that's all I'm saying .....

Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
I know exactly what you're saying Princess and its fantastic that 'you' knew to research your surgeon etc... Not everyone does babe they 'trust' and this trust without research is what can possibly lead to a whole lot of trouble
And anyway...l who needs google when ya got Breast Buddies hahaha (this is obviously a joke) xx

Erm...I'm definitely not...I just tried to highlight what I've been trying to say in my last post, as if I would have a go at cookie, who basically runs this site, she's the one consistent who helps out every person with every question they have....
And I'm not trying to say your not smart, I'm just trying to say people need to be more savvy, most people don't even buy a phone without reading the reviews and comparing different contract packages these days

Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
I didn't find this forum until the day after I had my BA!
I am one of the ladies that didn't research her surgeon as such. I have been extremely lucky in that my surgeon is qualified and has done a beautiful job! A few years ago when I was first considering a BA I booked with a highly qualified surgeon. However I got cold feet and backed out.
Knowing what I know now I would strongly advise any lady considering a BA to only use a surgeon on the plastics register.
The nack is reaching the ladies that don't know about this wonderful forum - what do they say? Knowledge is power!

Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
Maisy, as much as I appreciate the sentiment lovely, I think you're out of line in suggesting Princess was having a go at me babe. And if she were... I'm big an ugly enough to hold me own babe
Seriously though... Princess was just voicing her opinion

Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
Thanks:Ok: I guess because I meant it innocently I see it innocently, but I appreciate not everyone interprets things the same way, especially hard when it's all in text I suppose, so just to clear up in no way was I having a go, and I'm glad cookie didn't see it that way.
I've been on here on and off for a fair few years so I know how helpful this place is, I find it a great place to get my questions answered on a more personal level, or just share experiences and feelings, or just to have a little rant/vent/laugh and the people who run it like cookie are absolutely invaluable, without them it wouldn't tun the same or even be here.
Anyway now that's cleared up--make sure you all check out exactly what your procedure involves, tour surgeon, your practice, your package, tour aftercare, and compare, research, question, check...and enjoy it!

No need for thanks hun. I simply say it as I see it.pinkprincess881 wrote:Thanks:Ok: I guess because I meant it innocently I see it innocently, but I appreciate not everyone interprets things the same way, especially hard when it's all in text I suppose, so just to clear up in no way was I having a go, and I'm glad cookie didn't see it that way.
can i just add...there is an incredible amount of research that went into creating the Breast Augmentation Information section of this forum which tries to cover in as much depth as possible most aspects of breast augmentation. The time Roxychick, Nads, boobieprize, misf1 and myself put into that section isn't just so this forum can be used as a kind of 'chat room'. In EVERY new members post, they are encouraged to research and are directed to the Breast Augmentation Information section of the forum. There is actually a whole wealth of information provided in that section of the forum, so if anyone is missing out on the information in there... Please use it.I find it a great place to get my questions answered on a more personal level, or just share experiences and feelings, or just to have a little rant/vent/laugh and the people who run it like cookie are absolutely invaluable, without them it wouldn't tun the same or even be here. :
We ARE all the things you said in your post Princess, but we are also a great source of information in our own right too. I know I learned so much more than I knew from that section of the forum when I arrived here. Xxx
Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
I think we've all learnt so much from the mods - I definitely wouldn't be half as clued up if it wasn't for you girls.
Interestingly, I was just wondering how come there is so much onus on the NHS as most boob jobs are done privately and are obviously not regulated under the same restrictions (would make life easier if this was so). I'm not criticising the nhs at all (I'm work for them!) but was wondering about the difference in regulations and advice for nhs vs private merely from a professional prospective. Xx

Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
This is actually something BAAPS has been trying to change for a long time Flower. The lack of regulation in the UK is appalling and you're right, it would be easier... But in the meantime, we advise in the best interests of our members that they do seek out surgeons as guided by the NHS. Xx
Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
WOW. Only just seen this post. I didn't realise that there were different parts to the specialist register. I've just been popping names into the GMC website and checking out details. It's amazing how many surgeons aren't on there for plastic surgery! Thanks for highlighting this Cookie. I had to double check mine again! I popped details in of a couple that I'd spoken to in the past and was surprised with the results!
Does go to show research is key!!x

Re: IMPORTANT! Please check yr surgeons qualifications
If you're having breast surgery through somewhere the equivalent of our NHS babe, then they'll hold some breast related qualification babe and as stated by our guidelines in the UK, if their qualifications are breast related that's fine xx
