Lymph Node swelling after having implants? Empty Lymph Node swelling after having implants?

Post by rk19 2nd November 2011, 8:52 pm

Hi Girls,

I had a skin infection on my right breast which caused a lymph node to swell up in my underarm which was painful/tender to touch. As i completed my antibiotics course this went, but came back when i came off antibiotics(i finished the course). I was so worried called NHS helpline over weekend, they said sounds ok but get another checkup at GP. But it all calmed down again so i didnt go. And now today i have a swollen lymph node in my left underarm.

Again im extermely worried. What is going on? I cant find much on the internet. Can anyone advise if they've had swollen lymph nodes after implants? Is this a sign of something being wrong? Going to see GP tomorrow for sure. But really would like to hear from anyone whos been through something similar or know about it as i cant get any peace of mind at moment Lymph Node swelling after having implants? 683465 I was so happy with my implants im so wrried something is wrong now.

Yeah, my understanding is that when your lymph nodes are swollen, it's because their job is to clear all the dead white blood cells from your blood, and white blood cells are the ones your body uses to fight infection / illness. That sounds bad... but that is always going to happen to all of us, because we have had a foreign object implanted into our bodies, and your body will always try to a) get rid of it, then if it can't it will b) heal around it. So white cells dying can just be part of the healing process.

When you were on antibiotics, they would have been helping the white cells, so less of them would have been getting killed off fighting of the greeblies in your body. But now you're off them, your body is doing all the fighting by itself, so at first, a few extra white cells took one for the team - so your nodes would swell up, then you got a bit better, and a less were dying, so they went down, and for whatever reason, it's flared back up again.

It could be a sign of infection. It could just be that you overdid it a bit, and got a bit run down and to cope with it all you body had to work a bit harder to ward off infection again that day?! Just be sure to take it easy, and monitor the inflammation. If it carries on for another day or 2, see your GP and get some more antibiotics to help out.

I don't really know why you would be getting this. If its a rupture they wouldn't have gone down with antibiotics. I would go back to your gp who will be able to give you tests or refer you to a specialist.

Here's a suggestion - look around for places that do "lymphatic massage".

My PS has a "spa" attached to his surgical center, and it's required part of the surgery (afterwards) to go in for 3 1hour lymphatic massages. Basically they just massage your boobies and under your arms and stimulate the drainage of the lymph. THen you go home and drink about 1 gallon or 2 of water LOL

Just an idea hun - ask your PS what he thinks of this!

Good luck and much fingers crossed for you that it's sorted

Hi hun,

Don't know if it's a similar thing or not but my daughter had a lymph node infection a few months ago. Really bad one. Anyway, she went onto antibiotics which cleared up the infection but the lymph nodes remained swollen for AGES afterwards. Doc said that this was perfectly normal and that they do take a long time to go back down.

Hope it settles down soon! xx

Thanks for all the replies girls.

I went to my GP on Thursday morning, the doc had a good feel of my boobs, checked the infection area and said that has definitely calmed down and doesnt look infected now. Said the lymph nodes can stay swollen up to 2-3weeks after taking antibiotics, she wasnt sure why my left underarm also has a lymph node come up as the infection wasd on the right. Said monitor for 2 weeks, and if it doesnt improve come back.

She said your surgeon will probably not have anything different to say at this point in time. Im thinking i will give it 2 weeks and then go back to my surgeon instead of the GP. I am upset as i dont know why this has happened :(

I very much doubt they are ruptured as ive had no trauma to my boobs at all.

I will let you know how i get on. Thanks for all your advise and replies.

This advise is spot on hun, Yes they can swell up due to infection but also they can swell at times for no clear reason, mine swell up form time to time im my armpits and some times I have glands swell in my boobs but im not ill or run down and I have nothin I Know of thats making them do it, it could just be down to my body fighting of something Im not aware of thats all.........

If you feel ok and you have no other clear signs that you have a infection then I would say your ok hun and maybe just run down or fight off something hidden ( that just means it so minor you dont even feel ill)

Im sure they will settle in time but dont be surprised if they flair up aain in the future xx

Thanks Crystel. Well its very strange as i have now developed a lump down below! What is going onnnn!!! I just went to a walk in centre and i just want to say waste of 2 hours and the NHS are just AWFUL. They didnt examine me AT ALL, and just gave me antibiotics AGAIN. This was a GP - why would she give antibiotics without checking me. So annoyed. Im not going to take them. Will let it be and after 2 weeks im going back if no improvement. What you've said makes complete sense and now i know others have this too im not so worried. My only concern was imagine something is seriously wrong inside and i dont know.

Fingers crossed all will be ok. Next time i know not to bother with emergency GP's - we have better docs on this forum for sure Lymph Node swelling after having implants? 184153
