Tuberous boobs!
Hi ladies, I didn't even really know what tuberous boobs were so I googled it and oh my god I totally have tuberous boobs. I always just thought I had a really ugly deformed pointy chest but now I know it's a proper thing! I have my BA in less than a month but my surgeon never mentioned anything about my tuberous breasts and now I'm really worried as I've read that I shouldn't just have a straight BA.
Why didn't my surgeon spot this and what shall I do?!
I don't know if this is relevant but I'm seriously less than an a cup.
Thankyou for your time sweetpeas x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Hiya hun, my surgeon explained that I had tuberous breasts after he took all his measurements. He basically said "The reason your breasts are small is you have this..." he then explained it to me.
Like you I never thought I had a condition and after Id been told I felt kind of odd like I was a freak or something.
My surgeon explained that because im tuberous I cant have a massive implant and that he will have to go in through the nipple as its a better position to cut away the band of tissue that makes the breasts the pointy shape.
The surgery is also more complicated and lasts longer (2hrs instead of around 50 mins for a standard BA) so I had to pay slightly more.
It is slightly confusing why he didnt even mention it as it is so important that he doesnt just do a normal BA or you will just have your tuberous shape sitting on top of an implant.
I would contact your PCC. Where are you booked in hun? x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
i had tuberous breasts but i didn't know either! until i went for my first consultation and the surgeon told me and he explained what it is and that it comes in many different degrees of severity. he also expained that having a BA wouldnt be enough, and in fact it would make it look worse! it would exaggerate the problem. so i had a new, lower crease made and some tendons or something had to be cut to let my breast grow or something (it got very complicated and i got very confused!) he also re-shaped the gland too due to its shape being not what it should! its sounds like i had hideous breasts before but to be honest i just thought they looked a bit pointy and puffy nipples and too small for my liking.
If i were you i'd mention it to your PS and see what he says, or maybe google a surgeon in your area that specialises in correctional surgery and go for another consultation, it can't hurt to see whats out there and get a second opinion. I was told that it wasnt an easy straight forward procedure to do if you're not used to doing them (dont know if thats true or not) it put my mind at ease knowing that my surgeon was comfortable with the procedure.
Let me know what happens, i'd be really interested to hear someone elses journey with tuberous breasts, at the time i thought i was the only one!!

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Hello girls thankyou for your replies! I am booked in at the end of oct! I cannot believe they weren't even mentioned at my consultation. I am so flat chested, I just have a tiny point with a nipple on the end, I wonder if it was not discussed because they are so small they are easier to correct? Do you think?
My pcc is on holiday for 2 weeks and now im really worried that I either have to come up with even more money somehow (I have to pay the balance on Wednesday) or I'll have horrible boobs like I already have now, but bigger! :(
I'll call my clinic tomorrow, but to be honest after having to diagnose this myself, I don't really feel like I have much confidence in my surgeon.
This is so typical for me!

Look at the positives hun, you found out before the op.
Youre paying alot of money and changing your body so its best you feel 100% confident in your surgeon x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Thankyou so much, you're all so wonderful and you seriously know what you're talking about!
Having a ba meant the world to me, now I don't even feel excited anymore cos my boobs are jus gonna look like round boobs with pointy hats on!
Like I wasn't scared anyway...

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Hey Claire,
I know I guess better now than later, but I'm frightened if I mention it now they'll just think kerchiing and whack more money on top, as I've already paid my deposit and I've not got long left before my op if i pull out now I'll probably lose my deposit and still have to pay a percentage towards the op.
I dunno what to do now :(

Re: Tuberous boobs!
I know exactly what you mean, Iv sent emails to my PCC saying "Now are you SURE he knows what he is doing with the tuberous boobs"
I felt very confident with him but Im sure its very common to have doubts especially as ours arent 'the norm'
Iv found out alot of what I know from on here, its been so great and although there arent as many of us I dont feel that Im some strange medical anomaly.
Im sure that as the PS hasn't diagnosed you properly you could go down the route that its not your problem and try to argue it depending on what they say.
It might be an idea to go see another PS and see what they say the you can go in 100% sure you're tuberous and then they cant argue with that.
Let us know how you get on and what your PS says x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
I will call them tomorrow and see what they say, but surely if my ps didn't mention this at any of my consultations with him, then they can't add extra pounds on top to correct this can they? The cost was agreed, and it wasn't my fault this wasn't noticed earlier!! It's not just about the money, but I want this so badly I'll be devastated if I can't afford to go through with it.
How uncommon are tubular breasts? Mine are really symmetrical just very small, they look more like 2 noses than boobs!

Re: Tuberous boobs!
I think as mentioned there are different degrees of tuberous breasts. My ps said I had a mild form and would need the creases lowering.
I still have a bit of a puffy nipple but its not that bad now because its on a boob! He did say it will take longer for the implants to drop.
I went to see 3 ps, including one with an interest in tuberous breasts, and the advice from 2 was the same - and the other one wasn't really interested in anything!
Do go get a second opinion hon, and revisit your ps to clarify what needs to be done xx

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Mine are totally symmetrical, just small with a high crease. Kind of like they half started to grow then got bored but wanted a full nipple haha so they have a pointy look unless they get cold or something then they go more 'normal' looking.
Wow loopylou you had a 530cc! they look a great shape.
Hoping you get a great outcome from it hun, it'll be interesting to hear what another surgeon says and what your current one says about it as well x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Yea, I was ok about it until I was in bed (going to sleep :P) with my boyfriend and I looked down and just started to cry! I think I was just really embarrassed that he was there when I was told, but then again at least I didnt have to explain it to him.
He was great with me whilst I was sobbing away...
Big hugs for the tuberous ladies

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Aww you guys,
I know everyone is different but in most cases are the implants inserted through the areolar? I know mine are going in via the crease.
Hey mine are the same,I have a bit of upper pole fullness but absolutely nothing under the nipple, which is a bit puffy, and no crease.
I will try get second opinion but I feel a bit cheeky, I guess as long as it's within the same company I should be okay.
Thanks ladies x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Dont feel cheeky hun, some surgeons work for more than one company and alot of people go to lots of different places before hand.
Im going with the Hospital Group, Mr Darcangelo and he is lovely but there are lots of other places to go and speak to.
My surgeon explained that he will go in through the areolar as its the best way for him to cut the band which gives the breast the long pointy shape. Im sure every case is different so Im not sure if its 100% the only way they should do it.
What implant did he suggest?
It may be the case that you are so mild that he can do a normal BA but Im no expert so I would check with another surgeon x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Hey girls,
I had tuberous breasts pre-op. My surgeon lead me to believe that he knew what he was doing, and he performed a straight forward BA. Now they are still asymmetrical, I have double bubble on both breasts and they're horrible.
I'm having a re-op with a different surgeon, who knows what he's doing.
Make sure your surgeon is experienced with tuberous breasts, they're a lot more difficult to work with! Good luck x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
i had an areola incison cause my PS said it was the best to do the things he needed to do like Claire said. PS said he would try and put the largest implant in as possible but he didnt know how much the skin was going to stretch and how much room there was. i ended up with 300cc and theyre fab!!
You keep saying that you dont know if you can afford it if you have to pay extra for the correctional surgery but wouldn't you rather wait a bit longer (torture i know lol!) and save a bit more (harder said than done) and have them done perfectly, incase it exaggerates the problem and maybe makes them worse. To have the correctional surgery it cost me 1200 euros extra (but between us my PS was quite expensive anyway) so i think you could get it cheaper in the UK. Claire if you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for yours?
And TanyaJade what happened in the end with the original surgeon? did they offer you anything?

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Hi all, I paid £4780 for mine. That was with a £200 discount (but to be honest I think its a standard amount THG take off for most people) and free travel thrown in. I had budgeted up to £5000 so that was a result after I found that it would cost me more. Not really sure if this is good or bad but I did haggle the travel in but I really like my surgeon and THG have been great so I was willing to pay it x

Re: Tuberous boobs!
Good afternoon ladies!
Well this morning I spoke to lady at the clinic via telephone, and I explained my worries that I think I have tuberous breasts, and she said they is no way the surgeon would have let it go unnoticed and he's performed several ba's on girls with tuberous breasts and if he didn't mention it, then I don't have it.
Should I relax or get a second opinion?! I feel like I don't want to undermine anybody! Thanks girls x

Definitely get a second opinion! Honestly, the least of your worries is whether or not you offend anyone, you have the right to see as many surgeons until you feel 100% comfortable. x
