Re: I have seroma
Relax lovely! My scars opened about 3 weeks po and seeped pretty yucky stuff. The ER immediatley put me on IV antibiotic therapy and said its infected and took a swab....after 4 days of the IV tests came back there was no infection. Even the best can be wrong so don't worry until you need to. Hope all is well. Waiting is the worst but you WILL pull through.

Re: I have seroma
Hi honey
Just read yor story I have just been going through the exact same thing - my story is on another post (major seroma).
I had seromas in both breasts, drained and stitched up. Then whilst on holiday they both started leaking. I seen the surgeon today and he has taken swabs of both but has told me that he probably wants to takwe both implants out for 6 months as he thinks theres an infection now.
I feel totally fine and they look ok but im not risking my health.
Whats happened since and are you OK??

Hi!
I'm so sorry about what you're going through. I completely stopped using these website as it upset me seeing "perfect" boobs.
Since, I have healed well but with AWFUL scarring. The skin was so thin the implant was hanging down.I settled with the fact that this would be how they look until I can afford to have it redone. I then went back for my one year check up with my surgeon in July and he offered free scar revision surgery which I had done on 5th September this year and they have healed amazingly and they look great now. Overall I am now happy i just wish they were right the first time round as I still find them hard to look at!
I really wish you well with everything. Hopefully in a years time (maybe sooner) you will be saying this to someone else.

Thanks for getting back to me. Im so scared its unbelievable. ihave reqigned myself to the fact I will need to get them both out and Imnot sure I will have the confidence to get them replaced as it will probably happen again!
I know what you mean about perfect boobs - I really am devestated this has happened to me I have done everything I was told and I am still in this mess.
Did you end up getting yours removed or did they stitch you up and it worked?
Thanks again for getting back to me at least you know what I am going through.

Re: I have seroma
That's ok I'm happy to talk to you. I was searching for people in the same boat when I was going through it all.
What happened was, it had been confirmed I had a seroma but the surgeon thought he could push all the fluid out then miraculously the hole would close! Lol. It did heal a little bit then one night I put my arm behind my head and it ripped a little more causing more leaking. So we text my surgeon who was on holiday so we met a different surgeon who was covering him and he was an awful man who said he would take them out there and then if I were his patient. He just dressed it then sent me home to wait for my surgeon to get back. When he got back he put me on some serious anti biotics! I was on them for months they made me so ill. He didn't remove the implant he just sewed me up with disposable stitches. My sister is a nurse so she changed the dressings every other day. It took forever to heal because I was so ill and not eating properly.
If there is anything else you want to know. Please ask.
I wish you all the luck in the world

Hi Bella,
I hope you don't mind me replying to your thread, but I just wondered whether you had decided to have your implants replaced? I am in the process of trying to make the difficult decision to get mine permanently removed and it would be great to chat to someone going through the same thing!

hi excuse my ignorance here but if there is some sort of infection i would have thought sewing you up without leaving a draining hole is crazy?

Re: I have seroma
Seroma isn't an infection at all it's a build up of serous fluid(blood plasma), same as a haematoma apart from that is a pocket of blood. It is far from crazy as your body re-absorbs the fluid.

Re: I have seroma
Hi girls
Well I had mine removed 4 weeks ago now and if im honest I'm glad. I genuinely couldn't keep on going like I was.
5 weeks post op a blister appeared on my right scar, 1 week later it was drained and stitched, another week later the same happened on the other side (and some more fluid drained from the right again). I then went to the carribean on holiday with stitches in both breasts, total nightmare - ruined holiday as they both started leaking.
Then a week after coming home I had them removed. The think they took about 4 swabs constantly looking for an infection and the results were all negative. The took swabs when removing the implants and they were also negative. The leaking fluid was clear/yellow (as a seroma should be), no smell and I felt totally fine. My surgeon was baffled as well as the other surgeon I seen. He stated in 20 years as a surgeon he has never seen anything like this.
So far I have had 2 operations, my scars done twice, paid a lot of money and NO IMPLANTS!! I have been so disappointed with the whole experience. I used a reputable company and did everything I was meant to. Mine were over the muscle and I did question this at the time as I am size 6-8, 5ft 7 and about 7 st 10. My surgeon said I had enough tissue to go over the muscle however after doing more reseach afterwards about him it seems 9 times out of 10 he recommends overs.
I seen a different surgeon on returning from my holiday (mine was on holiday) and he was very adament i should have them done again (at this point I didnt know if they would need to come out). I totld him if they came out I probably wouldnt have the confidence and he told me off lol! 'Dont be so silly you have been unlucky I will do it if you want and I will put them under the muscle completely'. I wish I had this surgeon from the start if im really honest.
My own surgeon doesnt say much to be honest and wants to see me 8 weeks after the implants were removed but that xmas week so I will see him Jan if I can be bothered. I genuinely think that my skin just wasnt strong enough to cope with the implants and my body was stuggling and trying to protect itself and produced too much fluid. Because the scar was nly 5 weeks old the fluid leaked out. Whereas if the muscle had been there I think this could have been avoided.
I have paid £200 for a second opinion at a private hospital and this will be in the new year. I basically wanted to speak to a surgeon who specialises in reconstruction for breast cancer patients and I have found someone local. I trained as a lawyer and did all my research so this has been badluck however I understand the importance of independent opinion and this is what I will get.
Apparently seromas are more common in reconstruction (i think all complications are) and so I believe that this new surgeon can give me an honest opinion as to why this happened and if its worth getting them redone. If its just gonna happen again no way. I have less breast tissue than before and two horrible scars now. Nothing positive has came out of this for me at all. My bfriend has been great but I cant go on forever hiding myself.
Sorry total rant! So, still dont know what I'm gonna do I'm just gonna speak to a few people and see what my options are.
La violetta - why do you want to have yours removed?? Have you had complications or do you no longer like them??

Re: I have seroma
Sorry to hear you had to have them out in the end bella :( x hope it works out second time round!
Boobs2010 reading your story was so bizarre as it was almost the exact same as mine, surgeon and all! Even down to seeing another surgeon whilst he was out the country! Lol weird thing I now find is he said he hadn't seen a case like mine when clearly... You were like a year before!... The only difference I can think is I didn't have mine out, just replaced the persisted with aspersions and compression until they sorted themselves out.
Might sound really random but you don't happen to get quite hard or lumpy bruises instead of normal ones sometimes do you? X

Re: I have seroma
Hiya clawpaw,
I didn't have them out they're still in just had to have scar revision surgery a couple of months ago. I'm not sure what you mean about the bruises? Do you mean bruises in general or on your boobs? Funnily enough he said the same to me that he had never seen a case like mine :( but obviously it's more crap we were fed! I am going to see him in a couple of weeks for a follow up and I've decided I'm not letting him talk down to me anymore, I'm still not happy with what I have and I paid a lot of money for this and that not including the constant journeys to highgate to meet him! Sorry I'm ranting lol but this whole experience should at least have a really happy outcome and so far I feel cheated. Are you happy with yours now? X

Re: I have seroma
Hi Bella,
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience and hope you get some good news in the New Year!
I've just found out I had PIP implants, one of them has ruptured and my lymph nodes are full of silicone! Part of me thinks the damage has been done, so I may as well get them replaced, but a bigger part of me thinks I should stop messing with my body/health and get them removed permanently.
My surgeon SAYS replacement will be straight forward and that there are no risks associated with having my lymph nodes removed or of having silicone floating around my body for the rest of my life, but frankly I don't believe him anymore! He told me this couldn't happen in the first place and now he wants me to pay £5.7k for him to 'put it right'!

HI V
OMG im shocked! I thought if you had PIP implants they could be removed and replaced free of charge. If you are seriously considering removal and not having them replaced could you not speak to your GP?
Surely if there's silicone floating around your body it cant be healthy and maybe your GP will be able to help? Its worth speaking to them anyway.

Re: I have seroma
Hi Bella,
I know! I was expecting at least some kind of reduction, but it would appear that my surgeon does not legally have to offer any kind of discount - so he isn't!
I've got an appointment at my local breast clinic in a couple of weeks. Apparently there is nothing they can do about the silicone (apart from remove some of my lymph nodes), so the damage has already been done!
I am, however, still really worried about how I will feel if they are permanently removed! It was a massive decision for me to get them done in the first place and until a few weeks ago I was soooo happy with them! :(

Re: I have seroma
Hi boobs 2010,
Just ment bruises in general coz mine are pretty weird so thought it may have been linked to my seroma issues but docs are pretty baffled so I'll never know! I am pretty happy with them now cept the scar being bigger from two lots of surgery and in the area the seroma was worst there's a viable crinkle from the implant but tbh I don't want ne more needles being prodded into my chest and it's still better than what I had before! Oh god I totally know what you mean by the cost of having to keep going up to high gate, I also had I follow him to places like Brighton and southhampton! Almost lost it one time when Highgate almost refused an appointment because it cost money to use their rooms (god knows why if no one else is using them)! Hope it all goes well with your check up and you get across exactly how you feel! X
