Women can't keep breast implants for life: FDA - Page 5 Empty Re: Women can't keep breast implants for life: FDA

Post by tinkerbell24 16th December 2013, 1:05 pm

my surgeon told me implants are like cars as they age then yeah they might still drive (cars that is not implants) but they will rust, gets dents and have general wear and tear and most people need or choose to replace their car after x amount of years so this is the same as implants, I am well aware and always have been to expect more surgery to replace implants

however If all is well with the mri scan and im still happy with the implants its up to me to decide if I want surgery to change and implant that from an mri scan "seems" to be ok xx

i think if its recommended to have an mri every 3 years after ba (even though i am fit and well) i will to be safe and see if there are any silent ruptures.

What i am going to ask wit the nuffield is the cover for cc as this is the other common reason to have the impants replaced sooner.

i am surprised someone on here (think it was lil) said she asked a company if she got cc in first year and then 2 years later they ruptured she wouldnt be covered for surgery costs for both.

i am sure my agreement will be with the nuffield and not the surgeon direct.

if mr ben chew has this additional warranty you walk about (cant rem what its called ) i will ask him in feb when i see him incase i can pay £150-£200 for a few years extra cover.

thanks

Its called the ASC Karen

MRIs aren't aren't actually advised at all if you're fit and well sweetheart.

You'd only ever be given an MRI (through the NHS) if there was felt cause for investigation, so you won't have an MRI through them unless you were ill.

The MRI you'll have every 3 years to check for silent ruptures which be private Karen and you will have to pay for this yourself. I think they're are 'generally' about £400-£500

There are many clinics that will only cover ONE complication. So if you use your aftercare to correct that complication then that's their side of the bargain sorted! So yes, do ensure that you can claim on your aftercare no matter how many complications there were if you were ever unlucky enough to have to use them at all.

CC and ruptures though are really the most common reasons for replacement. These complications can happen at any time at all after being implanted. So yes, ensuring CC is also covered.

I know for many 'implant' warranties CC isn't covered, so you would have to pay for the implants if you aren't covered by the clinics aftercare, so there's a lot really to think on and check isn't there babe. Xx

I was lucky enough not to need my implants replaced due to my CC but the surgeon took some in the theatre with him just incase he couldnt "save" the implant but he said that there was no need not to put a perfectly good implant back in, some surgeons change them

I even had the chance to change my implant profile size but I decided theres always next time for that and the best thing to do was to sory out my problems this time

Like cookie said alot of clinics only sort one problem, and I had 3 this time, the CC, the muscle being to tight and the pocket needing lowered, had I went with someone else they might just have sorted out the worst complication, but I guess I will never know

I will book in for an MRI every 3 years to check all is well xx

well interestingly after all this 'what i would n wouldnt be covered for' i was told that as the exceptions to the nuffield promise wasnt out before i had my op i am covered for everything with no timescale - seems weird but i asked her to put it on a letter and she did.

i must say my gut feeling is the nuffield have ben great and i just honestly feel my surgeon ben would be the sort of surgeon like you had tink - well i can only hope!

can i just ask if you have paid the extra for lifetime guarantee , does this mean you get the implant replaced for free and just have to pay for the op ? also would you have to stay with the company you originally went with ?? thanks as i did pay extra for mine, i did know what lifetime ment but my surgeon wouldnt use anything else

Lifetime normally means life time of seeing the pcc or surgeon

I havent came across anyone that has implant lifetime aftercare, the wording used is very clever xx

All comments here are very interesting and helpful to note. My PS did warn of re-op down the line so I like the idea of starting a boobie fund, thanks x

I had to have an mammogram before being allowed to have my BA and it cost me £270. I was told I will then have mammos at Oxford as the local hospital doesn't do them with behind the muscle ones and it needs to be a specialist.

I think 10 years is good going. I'm only 3 days post BA and already I would have bigger next time lol.
