I am going to email my clinic now about it. I was under the impression by the wording that just "all patients" we're covered. Do most issues generally arise within the first 2years? I know they can occur at any stage but would it be most likely while the implAnt is adapting? I reckon I'd kick myself if I didn't go for it lol is there any more info on the specifics cookie? :-) like does CC have to be a certain grade? Or just any signs on cc are covered? xxx

That would be fab vix thanks! Does that mean we would have to wait until our cc is grade 3/4? I heard it can be very uncomfortable and if it was to occur I'd want a reop sooner rather than later.... Decisions!! xx

Very interesting to read... I'm it's confused as to why my surgeon wouldn't have mentioned the policy as he is a full baaps member...  I'm just thinking though with allergen they cover the implAnts (£800 each for mine and £700 surgery) which amounts to £2300 - quite a significant amount of money towards costs and this is lifetime.... Ahh will have to talk this through with my mum and maybe book an appt ith my surgeon? xx

All patients ARE covered by BAAPS members if they pay the additional fee lovely. Im surprised surgeons arent discussing it with their patients when they have their consulations actually. but i suppose this is as new to the surgeons as it is to us.

g0902 wrote:Do most issues generally arise within the first 2years?

complications can happen at time after surgery lovely. They aren't limited to a time.

g0902 wrote:I know they can occur at any stage but would it be most likely while the implAnt is adapting?

not at all... there are never any guarantees when you have this surgery and at any time whilst the implant is implanted, aside from complications due to the 'surgery' rather than the implants you never know when your implants will require revision.

g0902 wrote:I reckon I'd kick myself if I didn't go for it lol is there any more info on the specifics cookie? :-)

this is the only information so far released about the insurance, if you'd like to know more about it id advise you arrange a consultation with your surgeon love,y to find out more from them.

g0902 wrote:does CC have to be a certain grade? Or just any signs on cc are covered? xxx

surgeons would only allow aftercare and I would presume the same would be applied for insurance purposes a re-op when CC got to Baker grade 3 or 4 xx

Thanks cookie for that information... Definitely food for thought. I'm just hoping its not too late for me to apply! I had unders too so I know the risk of CC is significantly lower than overs... But I don't want to regret it months/years down the line! xx

its definitely worth looking discussion with your surgeon. like you say, I would think they would be advertising this all over the place, but maybe they aren't aware of it? !? my surgeons sec had to do some ringing aroundand research about it before she got back to me and it sounded as though he wasn't really aware of it xxx

Contact BAAPS Hangle and explain that although the press release explains that this is on place now, you're not getting any kind of response regarding this from Spire. Hopefully they will deal with this on your behalf. Xx

Quick update, got a reply from BAAPS:

The ASC insurance scheme is a voluntary scheme that has recently been launched for use by our members in their practice. It is not something the BAAPS has been directly involved in formulating. It is also not something all members will consider is necessary for the continued safe operation of their practice.

I am sorry I cannot give you more information.

well that isn't very helpful! The way the article was written made it sound like all baaps members should be offering it. has your surgeon got back to you yet? xxx

Shocked

In the wake of the findings from the Government enquiry into cosmetic surgery published in the last week, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) is first to announce the implementation of one of the report’s major recommendations: for patients to be protected through insurance. The only aesthetic surgical society to conduct a yearly audit of the procedures performed by its members, the BAAPS – which represents the vast majority of NHS plastic surgeons in private practice – was able to work with the world’s leading specialist insurance market, Lloyd’s of London, to create a policy that will safeguard all patients of surgeons who are part of the Association.
.

It is also not something all members will consider is necessary for the continued safe operation of their practice

The above is quoted from the BAAPS press release so the email you recieve just doesnt reflect what BAAPS actually released stating that it was they who worked with insurers to get ASC up and going.

Nowhere on the release does it state that the insurance is voluntary either shrug infact quite the contrary:

“We’re proud to have been working over the last year to help design a tailor-made policy based on comprehensive data and sound statistical analysis. Not only does this product directly address the issues highlighted by the Government’s review but it is also ready to be fully implemented. During these turbulent times in our sector, patients deserve a formal commitment."

Now either I'm reading this release completely wrong.... Or, I'm thinking BAAPS prematurely released this information BEFORE getting all of their surgeons on board and actually 'in the loop' Rolling Eyes

I referred to their press release when I enquired. I've got an appointment with my surgeon on 3rd July for a check up so can always bring it up then. Only other option I can think of is speaking to his secretary, although will she be able to help or is this something I would have to go through Spire with? X
