A 24-year-old woman who fell into a coma after a breast enlargement surgery died by misadventure, a coroner ruled on Thursday.
Coroner Michael Chan Pik-kiu said the court could not rule whether the amount of anaesthetics used in Zoey Leung Kwan fell within reasonable limits, as medical experts earlier gave divided views.
Leung underwent the enhancement surgery as a surprise for her boyfriend at a private clinic in Nathan Road on April 30 in 2010.
She had breathing problems and suffered twitching in her limbs soon after she was given an anaesthetic and was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She died on May 11.
The court earlier heard that she weighed 42 kilograms and was administered an amount of anaesthetic enough for a 50kg woman.
After learning the verdict, Leung’s mother Lam Fuk-fa said the death of her daughter was “man-made rather than a misadventure”.

Oh this is awful! It's hard enough when someone dies but all the more when it needn't have happened and was down to an error made by someone!
