waiting on the NHS, is it meant to be this long? Empty waiting on the NHS, is it meant to be this long?

Post by leanne67 18th August 2011, 8:23 pm

I went to my Dr at the start of April this year and got referred to a NHS plastic surgeon who i have STILL not seen. It has been nearly 5 months waiting..
My appt was meant to be end of july, which then the surgeon cancelled (probably he was on holiday :S) then it was meant to be tomorrow and it has got cancelled again, due to him overbooking?!?! I'm so upset, i won't be able to get time off once october comes to go to an appt, and i feel half my year has been wasted. Is it normal to wait a ridicolously long time like this?
i feel as though the surgeon doesn't care that i am waiting this long.

Also, if i am able to get it on the NHS ( i have be told i will as i have a slight funnel chest) how long roughly is the waiting list for the op?

Ive read on here some have said 16/18 weeks and other have said like 18 months. im desperate to get it done before next june so i am able to go on holiday. Is this an unrealistic expectation?! :(

Thanks xx

Hi there :) to b honest it really does come down to the "postcode lottery". It's harsh I know. I went to see my dr in may/June time and I'm ringing up tomorrow to make an appointment to see a consultant. I don't where your based but I'm in Leeds and every PCT has different procedures and rules.
You could always contact your GP and ask them to chase things up for you? Just hang in there and things will work out for you :) have you been passed to a cosmetic exclusion panel at all? Good luck and it will be worth it in the end xx

hey!

like ClaireLeeds1988 has said, its very hard to know!

im going through the NHS also and i had my first consultation start of Jan this year with my doctor and she referred me to a specialist... i didnt get to see my surgeon until a month later. She then agreed that i needed the op and she'd get back to me with a date. Since then, i recieved a letter saying i was in the "6 month CERTAINTY" list. It has now been nearly 6 months and im waiting for the call (that could be any day now) for my Pre-Op :) After my Pre-Op i only have to wait 2weeks until my actual Op woohoo..

SOOOO basically getting everything done and dusted is about 7 months for me.

I remember thinking that they forgot about me but they didnt so try not to worry too much.

But if you're really not sure id give you GP a call..

wow these girls are very lucky, this will be me waiting 4 years for my op!! ive had my yes and now waiting for my actual surgery date popping through my letter box. I have had 2 babies in this time so i've obv had to wait after them, almost 2 years of waiting alltogether. so if i hadn't had kids i would've still had about a 2 year wait. All of my appointments were about on average 6-9months waiting list!

hope that helps a bit!

Lol
You won't be waiting that long!! I've just come off the phone to make my first consultation and they said there arent any for a max of 13 weeks. Just because it's taking time for you doesn't mean it'll take forever hun. The PCT work differently in each area, like mine has just told me a professor at the hospital has already reviewed my paperwork and is awaiting an appointment to see a surgeon but that will be my first meeting. I've read some girls have only waited a month, just hang in there and your turn will come

:( Aww Hun

Don't think of it as a long time, use the time wisely and research everything so you know what to ask and what you understand will come in really useful. It will soon come round :)

hi hun it took just over 12 months for my surgery date to come through, i did go and see the doctor agin in this time who said he would speed things up as sometimes the paperwork gets lost. It might be worth you nipping to your GP just to see how things are moving along but i think 6 months to a year is about average xx hope this helps xx
