How soon can you start exercising?
Hi ladies!
Im currently in training for a marathon and having a BA is going to put a huge dent in my training!
How long do you feel its ok to start running again, or just exercising in general? ive got 2 months in mind, is this long enough? and can anyone reccommend a sports bra for running?
its going to feel so weird having my chest move when i run! im excited but also feel like im losing the only advantage i have compared to large chested women!

I'm not a runner so can't help with which sports bra would be best kazaa, but as far as excercising goes you could walk throughout your 6 week recovery and after 6 weeks you should be fine to get back to your running, taking it very easy at first and them building yourself back up.

Re: How soon can you start exercising?
Like cookie said you have to wait 6weeks before any form of exercise. But I know some girls who couldnt go back to running for a good 3months and that was with overs. As long as you feel comfortable and take it easy your body will tell you if its ready or not.
I would try debenhams for sports bras or m&s both have a wide range. xx

I walked from 2 weeks for about an hour and a half every evening (slowly). I started jogging after 6 weeks and am still only doing about half an hour, get to the gym and use less impact cardio stuff to boost your training I think.
I wear a shock absorber Level 4 run bra over the top of a cheaper sports bra and I have movement but not very much. I have heard that Elnee sports bras are ugly but extremely good at keeping your bust still so i might get one as soon as the right size come up on ebay!!

Hey hunni
I started walking fast on an incline at 2 weeks post op, and started running again somewhere between 6 and 7 weeks PO. It felt strange to begin with but wasn't painful. I wore a level 4 sports bra from M&S. My boobs don't really move at all in that when I'm running. It's great.
Good luck with your marathon. I'm hopefully doing a half marathon in August.

Re: How soon can you start exercising?
It was too uncomfortable for me to run until last week really at 7 weeks post op.
My PS told me NOTHING for the first 6 weeks and only then to exercise in the morning and to see how I was at the end of the day. If I was too exhausted then to leave it for a while longer. I started off just walking for 15 mins at a time.
If you overdo it it will take longer to heal.

Re: How soon can you start exercising?
thanks for all the advice! i think i will start off going for some walks in the evening (if its nice!) after a couple of weeks if i can manage it, then some low impact cardio like cycling after a month or so.
Dont want to get my perfect chest and then gain a butt load of weight cos ive been stuck at home!
Marathon isnt until next april so i got plenty of time!

Re: How soon can you start exercising?
I did go back to the gym after a few weeks but only to do very light cardio such as cycling on the reclining bike and cross trainer with no arms.
I ran after about 10 weeks I reckon wearing a good sports bra and one of those exercise tops that has internal support. I tried running before this and it just didn't feel right. I'd wait at least 8 weeks and see how you go from there x

I think (can't really remember now), I went back to running at around 8 weeks xx
The only sports bra I have found that pretty much stops any movement is the Enell sports bra xx They are pricey but do the trick
Well done on running a marathon xx

Re: How soon can you start exercising?
I think 6 weeks is the norm, but I'd advise you to listen to YOUR body after this time and do what feels right to you.
I love the gym, but only managed to go back a few weeks ago, just didn't feel comfortable and I still can only manage powerwalking on the treadmill, tried to jog once and it just didn't feel right so stopped.
If you wear a really supportive sports bra (I wear a shock absorber level 4 bra) most people are fine after the reccomended time.

Re: How soon can you start exercising?
I read somewhere that you should wear a sports bra (or even 2 sports bras!) a size smaller to stop those boobies bouncing. Makes sense I suppose. x

Re: How soon can you start exercising?
I ran a 10 k race whilst I was breastfeeding and had 32E boobs. I did a lot o fresearch on the best running bra and the one I ended up buying was the Enell bra. It really, really holds the babies in!! I looked flat chested in it really but boy did it work. Not pretty but strangely my hubby found it quite a turn on as it's front fastening with hook and eyes!!
It had great reviews on runners websites (incl one if I reember right, for big boobed runners!!)
Good Luck with the training and the b

Re: How soon can you start exercising?
If you watch your diet you shouldn't gain weight whilst your not exercising.
Like I said I did nothing for 6 weeks and didn't gain anything but was very conscious of what I ate. I always am anyway..
