Sleeping Braless
I know that quite a few girls carry on wearing their sports bra's at night for the support, but I was just wondering how many of you that are far enough post op to not have to don't wear one to bed...?
I am hoping that I will get the green light on Friday to be able to get back to underwire bra's and would like to not have to wear a sports bra to bed any more, I am pretty sure I am going to be around a 34D or DD, do you think not wearing one would have a big effect on preventing sagging in the future.
I mean I know that they can't defy gravity forever
but I just wondered what your opinions are on just how much extra benefit it is to keep wearing a sports bra ay night ??
xx

although I am only 3months though so they obviously haven't sagged yet. I just couldn't stand feeling so frumpy and covered up at night anymore

Hey Eastla.
I don't wear a bra in bed - I'm a 34D. I was advised by my surgeon that I didn't need to wear one, and I prefer not to. I'm not sure if it will make much difference or not ... (Not really much help there, am I?!!)
good luck with your check up, hunni.

Re: Sleeping Braless
Like Lea, I'm more comfortable in my sports bra to add additional support at night too, I'm happy to go braless when I want to but I'm very aware of sagging and want to do all I can after having a large implant to prevent this.

I read this -
* How can I prevent sagging in future years?
You
can't. However careful choices can modify your risk. Your breasts will
always change as you get older, and this is irrespective of whether you
have breast implants or not. This is because of biological changes that
occur with ageing: loss of elastin, stretching of collagen, atrophy of
breast tissue, loss of skin elasticity, sun damage to skin, smoking
related damage, effects of weight change on skin and breast tissue,
effects of pregnancies and breast feeding on skin and breast tissue,
hormonal changes, weight of breast tissue and implant weight and size.
The
biodimensional assessment goes some way to reducing excessive implant
sizes being chosen by patients. You should very much speak to your
specialist breast surgeon / cosmetic breast surgeon about this. The
larger the implant the greater the long term detrimental effects. This
is because of the additional weight, and the compressive force of the
implant on the surrounding tissues, which become thinner, and more
stretched. Avoid very large augmentations (eg over 350cc) and implant
sizes that exceed your natural dimensions. Sub muscular breast implant
augmentation may provide additional support to the implant.
Wearing
a well-fitting bra after your recovery is important (usually from
6-weeks). An underwire bra is safe and recommended. Wearing a
comfortable sports bra at night is also very useful. A shock-absorber
type bra should be worn during sport. Keeping the skin over the breasts
moisturised helps to maintain the elasticity (bio oil is possibly
advantageous here). Avoid the use of sunbeds and do not smoke at all
(both have a very detrimental effect on skin elasticity and quality, as
well as micro-vessel blood flow). Maintain your weight in the healthy
range for your body mass index.

I agree with Cookie. I still wear mine at night too (much to the annoyance of bf!) I just don't feel comfortable without it.

Re: Sleeping Braless
Hmmm - thanks for all your comments girls - i can see the reasoning behind wearing a sports bra at night, but I hate wearing them in bed.
Think maybe I'll mix it up a bit, having said that I know what I am like and once I get the ok I prob won't !!

Re: Sleeping Braless
Hi,
I am nearly a year post op and haven't worn my bra to bed since my 6 week check up!
I really can't see how not wearing a bra to bed will make your boobs sag. It's not as if you are running around doing star jumps is it?
I can understand how if you never wore a bra, your boobs will sag but think it's perfectly acceptable not to wear one to bed!

Re: Sleeping Braless
I was told I didn't have to wear the sports bra from 6 weeks, but I couldn't go to bed without it on until 7 months post op when I felt comfortable. It's weird I couldn't wait to stop wearing the sports bra when I had to wear it, but as soon as I didn't have to I didn't want to be without it??? It's a comfort/security thing

Re: Sleeping Braless
I have been told to wear one all the time at night once my 6 weeks is up. The nurse said that because I have a large implant then its a good idea.
I dont mind tbh as they are really comfy and I feel like I need the extra support!
Lots of love

I'm still wearing mine at night, personally I just feel more comfortable that way. I'll be 2 months PO next week (OMG!) and will occasionally not wear it at night, but will for the most time I think!

Re: Sleeping Braless
Yeah eastla, how did the check up go?
I can't see me wearing my sports bra to bed at night forever. I don't think my OH would have forked out the money if he thought I'd always wear a bra to bed
Anyway, I don't find mine all that comfortable and have to give myself a bit of bra off time everyday just to feel more comfy.

Re: Sleeping Braless
i mainly still wear mine, but occassionly dont wear one, when i dont tho i feel like im squasing them, or when i cahnge sides, they feel heavy and drop to the side a bit, then i worry im causing gravity to make them sag if that makes sense, so i try and sleep on each side as much as the other, so s not to create un even boobs!
