Nightmares on Tramadol??

Post by 111Lola on 27th December 2009, 12:12 pm

This is a bit of a random question but I have stopped taking my Tramadol that I was given by the hospital as I have had horrendous nightmares about my children for the last few days and it is really upsetting me.

Has anyone else had nightmares on Tramadol? Or is this from the anaesthetic or maybe just coincedence??

I dont usually remember my dreams but these are just awful

If you can manage without the Tramadol it's best you stop taking it anyway as it can be addictive. If you are still very uncomfortable you may have to take it as and when you need it until you can get something else. You shouldn't put yourself through any pain. Tramadol is a narcotic pain killer so this is highly likely it is the cause of the bad dreams.
I have not taken it myself. Hope you sleep well and you aren't in too much pain.

Thanks misf1 I've just googled Tramadol and nightmares and read some pretty scary stuff and it does seem highly addictive. I'm not going to take any more and if I can't get by on paracetamol then I'll call my GP for something else. Apparently vivid nightmares are quite a common side effect and I would rather be uncomfortable then go through another night of that. x

Hi Chic, I had the nightmares plus other side effects too, they were far too strong for me and I had to take my own ordinary paracetamol instead which I found fine. The effects of the Tramadol were horrendous, I was dizzy, nauseous, constipated and quite plainly out of it. As soon as I stopped taking them I was fine.

I supplemented my paracetamol with a nurofen if/when the pain got too bad, but it wasn't very often I needed to.

Hope this is helpful.
Good luck xxx

hiya, i was on tramadol and morphine when pregnant with my first daughter. After 5 days i had to stop it as they sent me crazy, the dreams were horrendeous. I was then given di-hydracodine (sp?) for the pain which is also very addictive. I am fine taking that though. If you find the pain bad ask for co-codamols, thats about the only thing i can take to shift pain now but they do cause me to be dizzy. xx

Yep tramadol made me feel terrible, sick and dizzy, only took it at night for a couple of nights to help me sleep, that was the only good thing for me about it. For about four days after BA I thought I had partials done instead of overs because I had dreamt surgeon coming in and telling me this

Hi,ive had tramadol in the past, they made me feel so sick and depressed. How about going to the chemist and asking for some co-codamol,they are paracetomeol with a slight bit of codeine in so they rae quite strong but not as bad as tramodol,i find them very effective.x

Tramadol's nasty stuff, If I'm right its morphine based. I was only given 1 of these when having my BA and it I couldn't string a sentence along! It took nearly a whole day before my head was clear...best to try and get through things with nurofen etc or the strongest over the counter painkiller is Paramol xx
