Types of support bras...whats the difference?

Post by whoopsy.daisy on 8th December 2009, 11:26 am

Was wondering if there is any difference in buying sports bras to support bras or even maternity bras?

They all are supposed to support you arnt they??

what is the difference??

ps do you like my new bikini??(avator pic!) bought 4 different patterened/coloured ones which are all reversible and yep NO WIRE!!! do you realise how hard it is to find ones with no wire that actually fit!!

I wore support bra's from M&S which my ps saw and said were fine. I don't know what the actual difference is really - to be fair I think the M&S support bras gave better support than the £4 Asda sports bras which I wore in the beginning. Personally I think they're fine. Loving the bikini!

I wore sports bras after my op and also a post surgery bra which looked like a shock absorber bra to be honest. My boobs could hardly move. I found support bras slightly less restrictive but still supportive. Didn't try a maternaty bra.

You need a bra that is going to hold your boobs firm and in place. Anything that isn't highly supportive won't be useful for you post op.

That's why your PS will recommend a sports bra or surgical bra for the first few months after your surgery.

So if you can, try and get a surgical support bra, they usually zip up at the front making it easier to get on/off plus they'll offer the best support.
If you can't then try a support bra, something that keeps them tightly in place.
If you can't get a support bra then a sports bra should be ok, something high impact, like a shock absorber.

I wouldn't recommend a maternity bra as they won't be supportive enough for your new boobs.

xx
