Is age at first BA a concern?

Post by babybird on 20th September 2016, 6:32 pm

Hi Girlies,

This may seem like a daft question, but are there any extra things to consider when having a BA in your forties?

I'm 42 and this will be my first BA, should I be concerned about anything now that I'm 'getting on a bit'?  Will menopause have any detrimental affect to my new boobies?

I know it sounds stupid, but hopefully one of you can put my mind at rest before I have a consultation (as I don't want to be fobbed off with 'yes, it's going to be fine' just so that they can get my dosh!).

Naturally there will be the normal ageing and sagging, regardless of what age you get it done at. A plus of being an older patient will mean you need to have less ops done (its never just one boob job). a minus may be that the surgeon suggests a lift now, which may cost more. There's no right or wrong age to do it. As long as your fit and healthy, healing will be the same. And Ive not heard of menopause having any effect whatsoever!

Thanks Charlii.

I know it sounded daft, but wanted to be sure!

If anything age is on your side.  You are less likely to be starting a family and will need fewer repeat ops every 10 years. X

Also it may not always be a lift needed.  I was left droppy and empty after breastfeeding 2 children for 18 months each. Instead of a lift I have extra high profile anatomicals that lifted the nipples

I think you are fit to undergo a BA at your age. Before going for surgical operation, it is best to consult a list of surgeon to be able to choose the best one for you. When I had my breast augmentation in Manila, I also made sure that the facility where the surgery will be performed should conform to strict safety standards. I was lucky that my surgeon of choice, Dr Rino Lorenzo was very good. I love my result! His post op support is also very nice. I hope you have a good result too.

Thanks girls, I have booked a consultation for 12th October, had a good trunk at the surgeons that are available at my first choice of hospital (it's only 15 miles away and it's with MyBreast) . Have decided to see what Mr Barabas is like.

Truth be told, now I've booked the consultation, I'm excited and scared at the same time!

Thanks again for your reassurance regarding my OAP-ness!!

Thanks Carrie, I'm 42 atm, so pretty similar age.

I wish I'd had mine done sooner, but as I've been told in a previous reply, there should be fewer times to get them redone in the future!

Yours definitely look fantastic!!

Thank you.

I did struggle with recovery a little,  not too sure if that was my age. That's all in the past now though xx

Sorry to hear that. In what way did you struggle, if you don't mind me asking?
