Worried about post op recovery!
Hi all :) As some of you know I am having my BA on 25th July.....seriously not long now, eek! I am starting to worry about the practical side of things and wondered how long it will be until I start to feel back to my normal self post op? I appreciate this is different for everyone but just an idea would be great!
I have two young children, aged 3 and 1, both very demanding little princesses so I know it's going to be hard to not be at their beck and call as I am now! My hubby is taking the first week after my op off work and my mum is coming to stay for my second week so I know I'll be well covered but how long will I be stuck in bed, or won't I?! I know I won't be able to pick the girls up for at least those 2 weeks but what will I be able to do? I'm not sure I could cope with being home bound for an entire 2 weeks!!
Thanks :)

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
Hello!! You sound very well organised and having hubby then mum for a whole 2 weeks is amazing!! I had mine done over Xmas so husband was around to deal with children. For the first 2 days I did nothing. 3rd day I went for a short walk - about a minute and felt so rough! 4th day I went to next doors Xmas drinks and I managed to stand and chat and socialise for an hour and a half. day 10 was Xmas day and I found that exhausting despite not hosting! For the first week I mainly sat around, had naps and did light house duties like washing up and cooking. By 2 weeks I was driving and back to work but I did struggle at work for a week or so and it was just an office but a big long commute. My boobs felt funny to walk for about 4 weeks. They felt alien. By 8 weeks I was pain free - but it did take a while for me! I was on painkillers for 3 weeks which isn't normal!! I think I had it rough!
Loads of people sail through! Not sure if u are having overs or unders? Mine were unders but overs girls often get an easier recovery. Xxx

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
Oh and btw - a lot of the problem with recovery us the tiredness! You sleep propped up for a week or so and its hard to get a decent chunk of sleep. Mainly it's just feeling weak like u would after surgery. Get your hair washed and blow dried at hair dressers. It's hard to do it yourself and u can't get under the shower for the first 2 weeks. I had mine done twice at hairdressers. Made me feel a bit more human having nice hair! X

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
Thanks so much for your reply! I'm having unders so have heard recovery can take longer.
Yes I am concerned about the sleeping propped up and therefore being tired a lot, just hope my eldest doesn't wake in the nights as she always calls out for mummy!!
I guess for me at the moment its the fear of the unknown but I'm sure I'll cope fine, just have to get used to not doing everything for myself! Thanks for the hairdresser tip!!

That's really helpful lucy. I'm a bit stressed as have my op on Thursday 21st then a house full of visitors the following weekend that I won't be telling so I'm hoping I'll be ok! Am planning to batch cook in advance so I don't have to think about food and get the cleaner in so I don't need to worry about the house but I know it's going to be exhausting!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
Urgh I'm dreading it too! I've had to rope friends in to have my kids overnight so I can leave v early for the op.
My other half has a week off work and the kids will still go to the childminder but that's only 3 days. Don't want them to know what's happened so am going to have to pretend to be poorly! I'm really banking on getting over the op pretty quickly but of course that might not happen. Am dreading trying to sleep propped up - struggle to sleep at the best of times!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
I was fine both times within a day or so to be up and moving about. The first time I went to a bonfire party three days after and was fine. I had someone help me with the children for the first week the first time and four days the second time. I have little ones too so would piggy back them if they needed carrying until I was about four weeks post op. I have to say the whole experience was far less traumatic and painful than I was expecting. Good luck ladies!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
Thanks everyone for your replies, feeling less anxious about it all now! I've already started batch cooking and my mum is going to do some meals too so I won't have to worry for a while plus I hate cooking so gets it out of the way haha!
Scotsgirl - I am too hoping to get over the op pretty quickly as I'm not one to just sit about but I think as long as we listen to our bodies we'll be fine! Plus we'll be able to support each other on here! When's your op again?
Daisychains - good luck for next Thursday, not long now! Good plan about the cleaner, I am hoping to blitz my house the weekend before my op so I don't have to worry about it for a while!
Feeling a bit more organised after the weekend as went out and bought some bits I needed. Still have to order my Macom bra and get some snacks/drinks for hospital bag but as I am a day case I doubt I'll need very much but as usual for me I'm overthinking everything haha!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
I've ordered the Macom, booked the cleaner and have decided to order ready to go party food from Waitrose for our guests so feeling pretty organised! My main worry is I have an 11 month old so am hoping I'll be able to carry him a bit after the first week at least. That is going to be hard - even with lots of help, I just cuddle him so much usually!!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
I had it today! It wasn't much to write home about, just checked my blood pressure, swabbed me for mrsa and talk through what will happen on the day. I feel surprisingly calm actually. I think it all a bit surreal!!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
No I don't get a pre op I don't think? Nothing has been mentioned lol!
I'm going to take vit C and arnica for a week before the op so will start at the end of this week.
I swing between surreal calm and utter fear!!! A tiny part of me is worrying about dying and leaving my 2 kids because of my vanity. But I know that's me just panicking and being irrational!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
Funnily enough I wasn't worried about dying - I am now!'
Seriously though it's good to know someone else feels the same - everyone post op seems so sure. I guess it's easy to be once you e done it!! Then I worry about being too big, too small, all wonky!! It'll be fine! I hope anyway!
I've paid Mrs Kat's fee but not the hospital. Think I need to tomorrow actually so had better check!! X

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
Lol this thread is so comforting to me as I'm experiencing the same irrational thoughts and fears!!
I had my pre op today, took blood pressure and went through my medical history and asked a load more questions! Pretty straight forward and wasn't there longer than 25minutes. Managed to ask some practical questions about what happens on the day so feeling more reassured now although when she was going through it all it started to dawn on me that this is a big deal!! I'm excited though and hoping to get my last minute bits organised and packed (keenly early) so then I can just enjoy my last days with little boobs haha!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
I'm not sure this is helpful as I had overs, but I honestly recovered so quickly. I've also got two children and my youngest was 7 months when I had my BA - my op was on a Monday, husband took four days off work to do childcare and then my mum took the Friday. I felt like I could have easily carried the baby but didn't take the risk. I picked her up after a week though, and was able to do all the normal things pretty much as soon as I got home. I did get my hair washed by a hairdresser on the Friday though as a treat!
Good luck and I hope you have an easy recovery!

Re: Worried about post op recovery!
I think having partials is why I am rallying the troops so much to help me out as I'm anticipating to be experiencing a fair bit of pain! Hopefully I'll report back in a couple of weeks time and it won't be too bad though!
9 days to go!!
