Rowing machine and keeping fit Empty Rowing machine and keeping fit

Hello all,

I'm 9 weeks post op and have been back at the gym a week.  Last couple of sessions I had 10mins on the rowing machine and it felt totally fine at the time - I put it on a lower weight setting then I would have done pre-ba.

I'm obviously a little achy all over as its been about 10-11 weeks since I last did any form of exercise - abs, legs and around the armpits all ache.  I guess the armpit pain is worrying me the most as its nearest to boobs but I'm guessing its just because that muscle needs time to build back up?  Managed a 3k run (my usual is up to 12k but usually around 6k so I feel pleased its coming back to me ok!).  I could have gone further but I didn't want to overdo it.

BUT - I'm now panicking that I shouldn't be working my upper body... what do you think?  Should I quit the rowing?  I have googled and it seems the risk is displacement of the implant rather than any risk of CC.  Surgeon said all heavy / physical activity can be resumed after 6 weeks but I read conflicting things everywhere.

I really want to get back into my HIIT / weight lifting and metafit classes and hope to do so from next week.  All of that involves bench presses, push ups etc.  Am I going too fast?  I don't feel I am - I feel ready and so happy to be back in the fitness saddle but I don't want to jeopardise anything or ruin my boobs.

Any advise would be great!

Hi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - I'm just over 10 weeks post op now. I started back at the gym after 8 weeks. My PS said 6 weeks was fine to start back, but I gave myself an extra 2 weeks because I tend to do a lot of functional stuff -lifting. pulling, pushing, carrying and HIIT. I was a bit cautious about supporting my body weight on my arms to start with, but I've been fine. I started back gently and I'm in my 3rd week now. Rowing push ups, pull ups, planks etc... all seem fine and I did my first HIIT class this morning. It nearly killed me because my general fitness has dropped off, but it's good to be back in the game. I'm not lifting anywhere near the kind of weight I was pre BA, but I don't think it will take me long to build back up. Just listen to your body hun. Looking fab in your avi BTW xx

Thanks macromilly!! Glad to hear you are right back into it too!! All my aches have gone now and I'm going in for a spin class tomorrow!!! Love, love, love being back!! I've done heaps of research and there isn't really anything to suggest I'll damage them - in fact some say exercise is good with smooth unders as when you work the muscle it massages them and keeps the pocket open so I feel a bit better now!!

I always said to my surgeon I wouldn't have it done if I'd have to drastically change my fitness plans so hopefully I won't have to compromise much once I get properly back into it! Xx

I think we all no our own body's and how far to go. I went on the cross trainer yesterday and I felt like was pulling on them and I thought I would ache today but I don't. I fact I think the numbness has disappeared a little xx
