Seroma... Empty Seroma...

Post by Lucy106 5th January 2016, 4:23 pm

Hello girls,

Does anyone know how serious seroma is?  I went to see nurse yesterday who took my tapes off and then called in the surgeon to see me as she was concerned about the pain I was getting and that I was still taking painkillers nearly 3 weeks post op.

Anyway the right hand side one has been more swollen from the start (or when my swelling kicked in around day 5) - it feels more engored and was alway the one I had the ice packs on at the top and around to the armpit.  This boob is probably a cup size bigger than the other one at the moment but looks fine under clothes.

Yesterday when the surgeon took a look he threw in that I might have a 'bit of seroma'.  He said he wasn't concerned and that he would tell me if he was concerned and would send me for a scan if he was concerned.  That would probably be enough not to worry most people but obviously I went home and googled seroma and now I'm worried!  How serious is this issue and should I be worried?  Some things say it goes away on its own and others say you could need the implant removed and then not replaced for 6 months.  odd boobs for 6 months.  Nooooooo!

He's given me a strap to wear which is fine - it feels very bruised and engorged with the new pressure on the dodgy boob though.  I'm also doing much more massage on them to try and reduce the swelling. I'm now seeing him in 2 weeks.

Does this all sound ok - am I working myself up for nothing? xx

Hey [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - I'm sorry that I can't offer any meaningful advice about seroma, but I think you should take comfort in the fact that you PS has been open and forthcoming about his suspicion that it 'might be' seroma. He's started you on a course of action and made arrangements to see you again very soon to monitor the situation. It's only natural that you'll be little concerned hun, but try not to worry yourself silly. Deep breath - you seem to be in safe hands. All the best. Let us know how you get on xx.

I too have nothing of any experience or knowledge on the matter. If you are really worried maybe push the surgeon for the scan. Fingers crossed for you that it turns out fine xx
