Possible rupture?

Post by missindependant88 on 3rd November 2015, 8:40 pm

Hi Ladies,

So I have a little problem in my left boobie, I start weight training a few weeks ago and totally forgot I wasn't sposed to train chest (even though i'm 2 years post op) day later leftie swelled and developed hardness around the outside of the areola, I shoved a sports bra on for a week 24/7 and rested and it got better, swelling went and hardness gone.

Exactly a week after I went back to weights, avoided chest exercise and decided to do an exercise where u tone your waist, it involves twisting just the upper body holding a bar in a crucifix position, as I twisted left I felt a pain in my boob and instantly it began to swell, that week I tried yoga the next day carefully and then metafit the day after but was in a lot of pain. avoided push up's/plank etc. 5 days after I'd hurt it again I saw my surgeon (the swelling had gone but hardness returned and worse still)

after examination he told me it was my gland/breast tissue and it wasn't something he was worried about. he said the implant was still intact but we couldn't rule out a hairline fracture in the implant. He said I should be checking my armpits as that's the first place it will leak to, in my lymph nodes. He suggested I go for an ultrasound from my doc and that I could continue training at the gym.

Went to the doc who has referred me for an ultrasound, the swelling has gone but hardness still very much there.

Anyone had a similar experience? Could it be a rupture or more likely to be muscle/breast tissue. It just seems strange how it all came about after training even though surgeon says no damage to the muscle or implant?

I read this yesterday then couldn't find your message again!  I'm sorry to hear you are having a few problems. I'm pre BA - booked for mid Dec but like you I'm very active, I do hiit / metafit classes, weight lifting, running, Pilates. I've done a lot of research into implants / weight training etc as I would think twice about going ahead if I had to give up completely. From what I know (and I'm no expert) I find it hard to believe that you would rupture an implant by lifting weights. There has to be more trauma to the implant surely!

Also don't forget in metafit you also do a lot of chest exercise so if you've been doing that for a while you would have been building up the muscle gradually. If you are worried perhaps have a few weeks off the weights and then try again with a really low weight to start with.

Let us know how you get on xx

Its much more likely you've just pulled a muscle or just your own tissue, like the surgeon said. Implants can take a lot of stress, I've seen one run over by a car before!

The ultrasound will put your mind at ease, but it sounds like maybe it just needs a little longer to heal up.
