Sleeping sitting up Empty Sleeping sitting up

Post by Boobiesplease! 3rd November 2015, 11:27 pm

ladies I asked at the hospital on sugary day how long I needed to sleep sitting up for, and got a vague answer of "oh a few days"
I'm post op day six tomorrow and have been sleeping very propped up, do you think I'd be okay to lie down now? My bum is getting a bit numb! What is the general guidance?
Thanks

Sleeping sitting up Empty Re: Sleeping sitting up

Post by Hattie73 4th November 2015, 7:32 am

I think I slept propped up for about 3 weeks... I didn't feel comfortable on my sides until then... However, you don't need to be sitting upright, just head and shoulders propped up is fine... So you can lie down a bit more if it's comfy for you... I gradually started sleeping on my sides more and more, wasn't comfortable with all night at first but I can sleep on my stomach now !

Hope that helps a bit ! Xx

Oh poor you... It will get better though, just go with what's comfortable for now... First few weeks are the worst but you will find little improvements every day... In another few days you might find that position is fine but it will probably be a few weeks before you can lie flat or on sides... Have you got loads of pillows around you ? Xx

Not until your nurse advises so. You should have a first wound check soon? She'll let you know then if your swelling is down enough to lie flat. It might be you need to stay up another week.

You don't need to be bolt upright, just head above shoulders.

I was head above shoulders for 5 weeks, laying flat was just uncomfortable, morning boob was worse if I laid flat, once I was flat, side sleeping kinda just happened but I needed to roll a sock and place it in cleavage. I think I was cleared for laying flat at 4 week check up xx

Hey lovey,
as [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has suggested...the couch is easiest.
Just because its natural upright and padded so I just found it comfier and easier to get up. I used to get stuck when in bed. And I slept upright for about 3 weeks.

It will pass, but the first few weeks are rubbish!

Its tricky, and I was sore for weeks. I didnt get on with the V pillow either. You have to build yourself a pillow fort. One under the small of your back, one under your bum, one under the knees to stop you slipping, couple under the arms, and enough to prop you up slightly behind, only about 3 or so.

I agree with Charlii on the pillow under bum and knees, it stops you sliding down the bed and getting stuck lol. Better for your circulation too X

My surgeon is taking a range of sizes between 375cc and 445cc so I'm a bit nervous but I have faith he will make the right decision. X

Sleeping sitting up Empty Re: Sleeping sitting up

Post by Charlii 4th November 2015, 10:55 pm

Honestly? He slept on the couch for the first couple of nights, because he was so terrified of rolling over and hurting me! We were in our flat at the time, so only in the next room, and he gave me a walkie talkie in case I needed him! The morning after my first night home, he brought me a muffin in bed for brekkie, then proceeded to vacuum the crumbs out of my boobs!! Such a good nurse Rolling Eyes

My hubby slept on the couch for the 1st week. I have just started sleeping back on my side and it feels so good. My nurse told me that I should sleep propt up because of swelling. Maybe speak to your nurse and ask her, her advise. Xx
