Uplift with implants or without?

Post by KatyH on 24th January 2015, 7:27 am

Hello, I was hoping to get some advice. I have provisionally booked in for an uplift and small implants on 30th March and am going to pay on Monday. Now I'm having last minute worries as my husband has *helpfully* found me lots of implant horror stories. I'm a DD now and don't want to be bigger, but was told by my surgeon that I'd need the small (140cc) implants after the uplift to take me back to what I am now as you go down a bit in the uplift?
What I'm thinking now is, should I just have smaller boobies and not have implants rather than run the risk of complications and more surgery in the future? Has anyone been in a similar position that could advise me? Thanks!

Hello and welcome to Breast Buddies Katy wavey

Having surgery on your breasts to change their shape/size is a very personal one and one im afraid only you can decide for yourself. Although your delightful husband is digging out all the horror stories bless him lol, it's actually good to know all the good and the bad before making any decision.

Undoubtedly if you do go for the breast implant it will involve further surgery in the future with implants generally needing changing around the 10 year marker. Of course for a small few their implants May last longer and even for some they may last for life. But you should always prepare for the possibility of change. Most of us have a booby fund that we put money in monthly 'just incase' so we are always covering ourselves in the event of complication outside of our aftercare.

I personally believe 'life is short' Katy and if you want a good set of boobs that are full and perky then go for the implant! Same goes for the flip side, if you feel you'd be happy to have an uplift alone which maybe will take you down a couple of cup sizes, then go that way....it's entirely up to you.

All of our husbands/partners all love us 'just as we are' my own husband too along with the rest of my family all did just as your hubby is doing to you now.  They see only you and the woman they love, they don't see what you see when you look in a mirror, so although its right that he have an opinion and is able to voice that, ultimately Katy the final decision is yours for  you to decide when you look in that mirror what you're going to be happier looking at.

I would also suggest you don't rush into this. If you're overly concerned and still not sure, don't be afraid to postpone the surgery....give yourself a little more time to think things through and when YOU feel ready, go for what you want then Katy. Xxx

Welcome to Breast Buddies Katy   wavey  ,
I haven't had an uplift so can't advise on this but am with Cookie in saying if you are not sure I would postpone to give yourself time to consider all options & what you feel is best for you.
In giving yourself the time to go through everything you can then book your surgery & be confident in your choices being the right ones.
You may find reading through some if the surgery stories or the diaries section of help, it will give you an insight in what to expect & chatting with others who have been through their surgery may also help you in your decision.
Any questions just ask away , we have a fab bunch of ladies on this forum, it's never long before  someone is around to answer & advise you where they possibly can.

Ahhh. Thank you both. Everyone does seem friendly and supportive. I guess I wondered if anyone had regretted implants.  I do worry about having something foreign in my body,  although I guess thousands of people must have them now. I also worry because I sleep on my front.  Is that possible after implants? Xx

Once healed & when it's comfortable to do so lots of people manage to go back to front sleeping, but for some it just doesn't feel as comfortable anymore.
A pillow under boobs/ tummy area can help as you won't feel like you are laying directly on your implants. XXX

Thank you! I'll have to wait and see.  They'll only be tiny implants so maybe I'll be lucky.  I didn't sleep for nine months with both my pregnancies!  I'm just obsessing about my boobs a bit at the moment..... xx

After I had my uplift Katy, front sleeping was no longer possible 'for me' I now feel like I'm laying on two bowling balls. But I soon got used to sleeping in a different position and back to a restful sleep.

That's not to say you won't be able to front sleep any more hun. But there is the possibility if you do have implants.

As for regrets....well, I've been here for a long time Katy, seeing over 8,000 women and not a single one, other than those who had difficulties after surgery abroad and were left alone afterwards having to lean on the NHS a for help, but other than that after fully healing no-one regrets having implants. Not even those who have had complications.

We'll 'ALL' very happy with our boobs and wouldn't want them any other way. Heart Xx

Re: Uplift with implants or without?

Post by KatyH on 25th January 2015, 9:15 am

Hey Cookie, thanks for replying.  I've just been reading tons of stories about capsular contraction and stuff and it had pretty much put me off but your reply was so interesting because even though I see you've had complications and revision surgery,  it's good to hear you say that no one regrets it. My surgeon said when I talked about not having the implants, that I wouldn't be happy with the result because I'd have less than I started with.  I guess that would change my whole bodyshape because I'd be a pear shape. But at least they'd be perky..  *sigh*
I suppose if youre paying thousands of pounds,  you at least want to end up with your dream boobies!
Sorry to waffle.... thought processes are whirring and I kind of feel I have to make the decision tomorrow.  I don't want to lose the surgery slot as that's the only date this year I could do.
Thanks for listening though!  It really does helps to be able to talk it all through.  Xx

You're not waffling Katy. It's a huge decision to make and one that's going to change your body shape forever, so you're right to take your time to ask questions and digest everything before making that decision.

I'm glad you've found us though. Our forum is if I do say so myself filled with the most wonderful group of supportive women you'll find on the net and if you've anything at all you'd like to ask, even if you think it may sound silly, I promise you, it won't be silly to us, because we want the best for you too, whether that's with, or without implants, we just want you to go into this having made a fully informed decision. Xx

Booked and paid for! Argh! Decided to go for uplift without implants and if I don't like the size I can think about that in the future. But spend ages googling celebrities with c-cup breasts and decided that they looked great. PLenty of people have implants to become a C cup so as long as they're perky I think I'll be happy. Now to embark on a pre-surgery diet so as to do the new boobies justice... xx

I think you made the right decision Katy. yes Xx

Don't forget to add your surgery details into the calendar entries section of the forum (not the actual calendar) so we can all send on our good luck wishes on your special day.

Also, not sure when you're surgery is but we have the February and March buddies threads up and running right now, so maybe pop by the month you're due for your op in and have a chat with the ladies in there. They're stickies at the top of the General Breast Augmentation section of the forum and are great for chatting and sharing feelings with those women having surgery on or around the same date as yourself.

Congrats on booking hun. dance Xx

Hi Cookie, just wondering, I've just read you had an uplift, was it a full anchor? How far across do the under bust scars go? Could you wear a plunge front dress without them showing? Xx

Hi again Katy I've just read your story so far! I'm mirroring all you thought, concerns, fears! But despite having not had the surgery yet personally, I feel you have made a great decision. Lovely perky high 32C boobs are just perfect! A full C with no sagging will look great in clothes too, a fab size to find clothes for. I have always had to by size 12/14 shirts etc despite being a small 10 everywhere else. I'm actually looking forward to being smaller now. Best of luck with it all x x x

Thank you guys. Fleurina, yours look fab.  I would be very happy with those. The thought of being able to wear a string bikini will keep me going. I can't see any scars in your pic. xx
Tory, I'm wavering now about the implants,  I've got another consultant with my surgeon on Saturday so I'll let you know what I decide.  I have some more stuff to say,  but I'll pop that on your thread....see you over there..... xx

Well ladies, I am now also starting to worry about if I should have gone for a small implant! Fleurina I'm so glad you had a good experience. Could I please ask if I may see your photos? I'm due back with my surgeon on the 9th and I think I will discuss implant options again. He did seem to think that my natural tissue would drop and implant stay high due to my skin not being that strong.?? Xsuch a big decision isn't it x

Hi Toryplum and KatyH - how are you both doing?

I think you were both making the decision as to whether to implant or not over the past few days - where did your heads net out? I don't think it's even possible for me to have an uplift without an implant as am so small/empty now, but I too worry about having implants and the revisions/maintenance that might come about over the years. So am interested to know what you are currently thinking/feeling.

How did your consult on the 9th go Tory?

Hey Boobz, I'm still debating..... I change my mind every so often depending on the pictures I'm looking at! I never dreamed I would spend so many hours on the Internet looking at boobs! My husband is taking a very active interest in my dilemma....
I've got another consultation with my surgeon (and my pre op screening) tomorrow so I'm hoping she'll just be quite decisive about what I should go for. At this point I kind of just want to be told what to do! I like to think that the clinics wouldn't try to push for implants where they weren't needed just so you keep having to go back.
What about you? Have you decided to go for it? Have you found a surgeon? Xx

Re: Uplift with implants or without?

Post by Toryplum on 12th February 2015, 10:09 am

Hi Ladies, well I'm still also confused! I can't believe how long it's taking to decide! There boobs! Much like you KatyH I never thought I would be sat there, trawling thru pages of boobs! It's strange how now I know exactly which ones I like and vice versa! But there has been one final decision,I'm not having the implants, well, not yet! But I still can't decide on surgeon.i met with my GP yesterday who still thinks I could go thru the NHS but that's not something I want to peruse for lots of reasons. She nightly recommended Mr mcgeorge who I know Cookie has used and he is clearly very skilled but I just didn't like how nonchalant he was about it all. Probably because he does it everyday and he's so experienced. I had chosen mr graham at spire liverpool as he as done work on a friend and an uplift on another but he doesn't advertise at all and there is literally nothing about him other than the official info. I'm attending an open seminar evening in liverpool spire tonight where they have patients there etc and I get another mini consultation. They are colleagues of mr graham too. Another bonus by attending you get 10% off surgery which in my case is around £800. Not being swayed by discount at all as if I'm spending upwards of £6k I guess another £1k doesn't really matter if I choose the right surgeon. I'm still so confused as who to go with. My second consultation with Mr graham is actually 9th March boobz but I will be sure to update you. I will also post following tonight's seminar.good luck ladies, let's hope one of us makes a decision soon then maybe we will all follow. I wake in the night change my mind on surgeon then wake in the morning and it's changed again!! X

Re: Uplift with implants or without?

Post by Boobz on 12th February 2015, 10:27 am

Thank you both for replying. I'm guessing we're all 3 spending just a bit too much time on this forum at the moment, and looking at boobs days and night. I dream about it now!

KatyH, here is a link to another thread I started which basically tells you where I am with my research (see bottom of post). In a nutshell though, I had a consult in London (am based in Rome) last week having done very little research, and thought I could just book a surgeon my friend had used to give me some new perkier boobs through implants. Got the shock of my life when he said I also needed a lift, showed me pictures of the scarring, and then the final price!

So then I came home and have gone into research over drive. And through that research, I have now started to really wonder whether I am making the right decision (to have any surgery at all - but especially implants given the revision/maintenance they might need and the cost/time away from family implications this has for us).

So I swing from seeing incredible post-op pictures and think - "Yes! that's what I want! They look amazing and are worth it!" to "Nooo, what are you doing crazy lady - your boobs look horrendous but they breast fed 3 children, what did you expect; you're body is FINE, leave it alone!" and then everything in between.

Had a long chat with my husband last night, who still assures me he loves my saggy boobs, but am still not sure what to do. I have pencilled in 3 consults with surgeons in March which I will have to fly over for, and think I am just going to book those, not worry about the cash I am spending (flights, hotel, consults, trains etc) and then make a final decision after those meetings.

I found this before/after pic, which is a lift with implant, and the before pic is a pretty accurate representation of my boobs now, and the after is EXACTLY what I want, so I hope if I can take this pic and see what the surgeons say is the likelihood I can achieve something similar, then it will help me make a final decision.

All the ladies on here have been amazing though - sharing photos even though I am new, sharing stories and advice - it has been invaluable.
