Do we have to change our implants at 10 years?

What happens if they rupture?  Is it poisonous etc

You don't HAVE to change your implants at 10yrs, but its recommended to do so at 10-15. I believe its due to natural degradation of the materials, plus natural aging. You're also advised to get an MRI every 3yrs or so to check them for a silent rupture. You can get this done privately for around £200.

The material isn't poisonous to the human body. This is where the CE mark (FDA in US) comes in. It means its been strenuously tested to see whether its dangerous or carcinogenic to the human body. The newer implants hold their shape and don't leak, hence a 'silent' rupture, but sometimes it can cause aesthetic issues, as with Cookies story. Best practice is to get to know your boobs, check them regularly, and get them scanned every few years.

I had mine for 22 years. One had ruptured so were replaced, I had/haven't any symptoms and didn't know it was ruptured. No side effects at all. I hope these will last me now!

My consultant said 15 years is probably the maximum time as general wear and tear kicks in. I had mine checked 10 years ago and they were fine. I think I pushed it to the limit at 22 years but I was more than happy with them. And seeing as I had them done so long ago, the quality was probably not as good as they are now. You've no need to think about it yet?
