The man from the Royal he said ...... YES!!! Empty The man from the Royal he said ...... YES!!!

Post by mrs mac 27th December 2013, 10:04 pm

Hi everyone,
Since my last post in September where I'd had an appointment with one of the surgeons at Glasgow's Royal Infirmary, I took a call from the surgeon's Secretary at the end of November to say my surgery has been approved!!!  OMG - would you believe it! dance I am absolutely delighted - can't believe it!

I've since received an appointment to go for a pre-op on 8th Jan with one of the nurses.  I've never undergone any kind of surgery and not sure what to expect - anyone any advice what happens at these appointments?

Also although I'm over the moon - I'm a little worried too....
1.  Will it all be ok - never gone under before.

2.  Sizing - never discussed in detail sizing with the surgeon when we met as at that point I thought it would probably be a "no" anyway.  All he did say was that he would place a round cohesive gel (?) implant under the muscle and something that would suit my frame (5'10, size 10 and currently a AA cup) - from what I've read in previous posts - you get what your given on the NHS and be grateful - which I am - I just want my make sure both the surgeons and my own expectations are similar - don't want "comedy boobs" but I want the surgery to be worthwhile at the same time.  I read something about a rice test to get an idea of sizing - is this worthwhile?  Also - just a thought - is it worthwhile taking a pic of my "wish boobs" with me?

3.  Darling hubby seems to be getting his knickers in a knot.  What I mean is that although he says he's delighted for me (we've been together for 20 years and he understand exactly how I feel about my boobs) he's worried that it will bring unwanted attention i.e. men ogling his wife etc etc and not to be too big and look silly.  I have tried to reassure him and understand that this is going to be a big change for him too, and that this is for me and the way I feel inside - not for anyone else's gratification. I wish he would just be happy for me and go with the flow and enjoy the end results and not bother what other people are thinking.   Has any of you girlies experienced this with you other halfs?  Not sure how to deal with it.

4.  Finally work - what to do with this one?  My initial thoughts were to take time off sick (paid) but then I'd need to tell my boss why and get a sick line from my GP to cover the duration - which I assume would detail reason for absence?  I get on well with my boss but I'm not sure I want to share what's going on with him.... Or do I take annual leave?  Either way I need to arrange cover whilst I'm off.  How did you girlies out there deal with this one?  Also, although I don't intend broadcasting the fact that I've had surgery but I suppose if anyone asked I wouldn't deny the fact.

Sorry - so may questions, it's been a while since I've had the chance to come on here and this is just a brain dump of all my worry beads lol.  All advice welcome.

ohhhh that's wonderful news hun! I'm delighted for you. Congratulations  dance

At your pre-op its just an opportunity to go through your medial history. If you're fit and well then that's fine lovely, but if you have any health conditions then they may require some tests at this appointment just to be sure you're fit and well.

They may also take your pre-op pics at this appointment too babe.

Also although I'm over the moon - I'm a little worried too....
1.  Will it all be ok - never gone under before.

Yup, you'll be absolutely fine. Aside from sickness, or low blood pressure after surgery, we have never seen any women here suffer any serious side affect from the GA - that's almost 8000 women babe.

You're quite right sweetheart. Sizing will be your surgeons decision. I'm not even sure you'll see the surgeon again now until the big day? Hopefully one of our other ladies will be along who had surgery through the NHS to help you with this - Privately the pre-op is the last appointment you have before surgery unless you've specifically requested to see the surgeon because you want reassurance and I don't think you have this option open to you through the NHS.

But if you do, I can see no harm at all in voicing your concerns and having the surgeon look at what you're hoping for.

if you don't ask... You don't get do you hun.

I VERY much doubt you'll get comedy boobs though babe.

Men and their bloody egos, what are they like hey babe lol.

this is VERY common. More common than you might think! It can often get worse as you both go through an adjustment period after getting your boobs too. But lots of reassurance and stroking of that ego generally helps them come around and see that you haven't had a personality transplant - just a boob job lol. He'll be fine babe. He just has to get used to your new body just as you will.... But doing this 'together' makes it just that little bit easier.

You don't have to reveal the personal nature of your surgery at all. All that needs putting on a sick note is 'general surgery'. This could be anything and its up to you what you want to say, if you decide to elaborate at all.... A bad back is always a good excuse though if you need one  :ok:

Soooo happy for you hun and please don't hesitate in asking any questions at all. If they're BA related rather than 'NHS' lasted though, you will get a better response in the General Breast Augmenation section if the forum babe. Xx[/quote]

Misskaren, I first went to my GP in April 2011, had to see a Psychiatrist (which was around 11 month waiting list) and now eventually have my surgery date for Feb 2014 - just short of 2 years.  Come to think about it ..... jeez thats a long time - right! Hopefully all worth it though #excited  dance
