chances of the nhs funding your case? Empty chances of the nhs funding your case?

Post by cupcakeaholic 6th November 2012, 11:26 pm

Hi there,
I am aware of how limited the chances are of the NHS funding these sorts of ops (particularly with all the cutbacks) but my GP did refer me to a surgeon for a consultation and he is writing to my local PCT to request funding for my case. I will apparently be getting referred for a psychology report also in support of my case to talk about how it affects me and so on. I don't want to get my hopes up but what are the requirements that have to be met for funding usually? I have lost a large amount of weight (over 11 stone) and I did this through my own hard work (diet and exercise) leaving me with very saggy breasts (grade 4/severe) ptosis and the surgeon said I would need an uplift and an implant and that he would recommend I get them done seperately so as to achieve a better result. Has anybody else been funded through the NHS for a similar situation? How long do you have to wait etc?

Thanks for your help

Laura

Hi Laura

I have just been through this process. The NHS did mine 18 years ago and they were a mess.

I paid private twice over for capsular contracture and leakage/rippling problems.

I went to Gp devastated and asked him to help me with my freaky boobs

I went to consultant who wrote a detailed report of what needed to be done and also psycologist etc ( i have been on medication and counselling) - this went back to my GP with a consideration letter suported by my GP and the other 2 professionals

It was a negative result. You have to research your local PCT info - its not a postcode lottery situation. The protocol seams the same. You may be considered if you reconstruction from Breast Cancer or if your boobs are extremely aymetrical ie one developed and the other didnt.

They have done their research into numbers that actualy have asymentrical on the large scale and im sure thats why they agree to this because of the numbers.

I was so dissapointed - i felt i had been on a rollercoaster ride, hoping and then being let down

Please dont hold out any hope for this.

Go another route - i have booked abroad after years of research and choosing a surgeon who owns his own clinic in poland and is a GMC uk registered surgeon. He has 16 yrs experience and has operated on thousands in the uk too - check him out he is adam kalecinski. eurosurgery.

I couldnt afford the uk prices again, i now have hope.

I met him - went for a consultation free they picked me up from the airport in a taxi free and took me to the clinic the next morning to meet him. all arranged from th uk. the clinic on net is noa clinic. all your info on this if your interested is on the internet professional beauty.

jsut food for thought. flights out there are only 2 1/2 hours and cheap as chips.

the post op care is good too and he will to revision op for free if needed. i cant find any bad reports on him.

i felt stuck, upset once i got my let down letter didnt know where to turn and i met a girl on a forum who said the same as this to me. She has her op now and i spoke with her on FB throughout her time out there. Im staying at Puro hotel which is fab. My op date is 5th March 2013

Any questions just ask

thanks

Kerry I would firstly appreciate you not advertising this surgeon or the clinic or its FB page on this forum.

If you'd just done a little more research you will have found that the surgeon you have chosen is NOT on the specialist register to perform plastic surgery.

These sadly are the dangers of opting for surgery abroad. When researching any procedure it's always wise to ensure your surgeon specialises in it.

I don't think you can put a price on your body and just because it's cheap. You may have had found good reviews on him but what about the ones that have had complications or botched surgery with him. I'm sure the clinic is not going to use them as adverstesment.

Cheap as chips is not a good enough reason for booking major surgery that requires technical skill and is not risk free.

Hey!!

I got my case funded byu the NHS at the start of Jan.. going back next to see sizes etc get a date for surgery!!

Had to wait over 6 months on NHS lists to get to see the consultant to see if i would be approved so took a long time!

All i can say is it was worth the wait for me...
