Strange symptoms after a hit in the chest!

Post by Sophie1819 on 16th September 2012, 11:32 pm

Hi, I had breast surgery on the nhs in November 2011 because i had severe asymmetry. I had an implant in my right breast which reduced the asymettry considerably. Everything was going fine until Saturday morning. My breast felt unusually soft and I was also experiencing pain underneath my breast and under my arm, which is getting considerably worse. My whole breast feels tight as if someone is squeezing it from the inside. My breast has also changed shape, and is slightly numb in some places. I have had some numbness around the scar since the operation, but the numbness seems to have increased. There is also a lump which seems to be on top of the implant and my breast has swollen considerably. It feels like a football! The scar underneath my breast also looks unusual, the skin seems to be really pale around it. The only thing I can think it could be (which I know of) happened Friday night. I got knocked whilst i was in a club. This caused me a lot of discomfort in my breast. I was wondering if anyone could help me.. could these things be happening as a result of bruising from the knock? or is it more likely another problem, say with the implant itself? Has anyone experienced similar problems before? I know it's so unlikely that the implant would have ruptured due to a knock! I will call the breast unit at the hospital tomorrow and let you know what they say! Thanks x

I guess it's possible the capsule ruptured if you had a high impact knock to the boob?

Or the tightening could be a sign of CC, which I think can happen with trauma?

I'd be really interested to hear what they say - Good luck :)

I forgot to mention, since this knock happened, a mark has appeared on my breast which looked like a love bite at first, but has since turned into almost like a burn!? There are tiny veins which have appeared at the surface of the skin around it' shrug on Friday it looked more like a love bite, and since then the skin has somehow broken and formed a scab, not blood, more like a scab formed by pus!

Thank you, I'll keep you posted! X

From your first post I thought due to you only getting the knock a couple of days ago that it's possible this might be causing the symptoms and after popping your boob in a sportsbra for a couple of days so it has no movement you might find it feeling much better....

But.... your second post has troubled me? It's not something I've heard of before and for your breast to start producing 'pus' that would have had to have been some knock babe!

I'd personally be at A&E now if this were happening to me babe.

It doesn't sound like a rupture to me, but it's possible you may have an infection, so the quicker you get it treated hun the better. xx

Re: Strange symptoms after a hit in the chest!

Post by Sophie1819 on 17th September 2012, 12:46 pm

Well last night I started to worry, as my breast swelled up badly and was so uncomfortable! I rang the nhs helpline and a nurse rang me back. She said to go to my gp ASAP this morning to get it looked at, and also told me to wear a supportive bra (this has helped a lot!, don't know why i didn't think about that). Was tempted to go to A&E but over the phone she said i disnt really need to. Anyway, after examination the Gp said there is considerable swelling and the implant wouldn't help as the breast had less room to swell (something along those lines) and basically said she thinks it's just bruised. As for the mark, she said my contraceptive pill could of caused?? And if it starts to form into an abyss then I should go back, that's all that was said about it really. Do you think I should maybe try and talk to my surgeon or just go with what the gp says? I do trust the gp but I'm thinking the surgeon would know more about damage the knock could of caused (if any) x

I'd definately from what you've said about your breast producing pus lovely contact the surgeon and get them to take a look at it. If only for reassurance hun. xx

Hey hon,
Is it definately pus? Or is it kind of pale yellow, clear ooze? Tissue fluid could be leaking out because of the swelling, this is the exact stuff you get oozing from, say, a carpet burn where it's not bleeding, but it's all wet and sticky.

It would be strange for an infection to form as a result of an impact

Aw hun how horrible for you. I would go to your surgeon if you can as they will be able to put your mind at ease. Try some frozen peas to help with swelling and discomfort.

Hey yeah it's more like a carpet burn than anything else, it's doing a lot better now I've been wearing a sports bra in bed too, I think I'm going to give it a few days for the swelling to heal, then have a feel to see if I can feel anything abnormal, I'll contact my surgeon after that if I need to. Thanks girls :) x

No problem Sophie. If you do have any further problems lovely, do contact your surgeon. Remember that your GP is not qualified in 'cosmetic surgery' so the best person to advise on any problem you might be having with your breast would be your surgeon hun.

Glad you're feeling better xx

Re: Strange symptoms after a hit in the chest!

Post by Sophie1819 on 19th September 2012, 11:07 am

Hey, I had to go into hospital today with a friend, so I decided to go into the breast unit to see if I could get checked over by a specialist. I saw a nurse who quite frankly made me feel stupid! She looked at my breast for all of 2 seconds and touched it once. She said before I even got undressed that i won't of damaged the actual implant. But at the end of the day I went to see because my breast had changed. She said my surgeon is free today to see me if I wanted reassurance. Is there any point in going to see him for him only to say its bruised!? Don't want to waste people's time, specially when they make you feel stupid! X

If you're concerned at all, you go and see your surgeon Sophie! Don't allow anyone to make you feel like you're wasting time lovely.... Your surgeon I'm sure will be sympathetic to your concerns babe, especially if you still have swelling now 4 days in from having the bang on your breast. I'm sure there's nothing at all wrong with your implant itself babe, so I wouldn't worry about that, then again I'm no surgeon and if you feel there might be, then it's wise of you to go and checked out. 5 minutes of his time for a little reassurance if that's all that's needed isn't a bad thing in a surgeons day is it lovely. So please don't be scared... if you're concerened - do go
