First ever appointment at breast clinic today! Empty First ever appointment at breast clinic today!

Post by kcblue25 20th June 2013, 11:26 am

Hey ladies,

I finally spoke to my GP last week over how unhappy I've been about my breasts (I posted my story on the Newbie section if you want to know more - but they are asymetric and tubular) and I've been referred to see a specialist at the breast clinic.

My first appointment is today this afternoon and I'm super nervous, as obviously I don't know if I will be able to have treatment.

Can anyone please tell me what to expect and what usually happens in this first meeting?  I have never been to any breast consultations ever NHS or private so very very nervous.

Thanks in advance x

Thanks ladies.  I'm trying to keep an open mind and have no clue what to expect so just going to go with it.  Fingers crossed they can help me - if not I'm just going to have to get saving up the ££££.

Jenniffer - I'm not even wearing makeup today (I look rough lol) because I know I will get emotional and don't want to look a state when I go back to work after!

Will let you know how I get on xx

Aww :( well I have my fingers crossed for you that this consult is a constructive one and gets the ball rolling for you... Hopefully they should be able to say that they can help you and then it's just how long it will be? Victoria had her first consult at the NHS the other day aswell which she said went well so hopefully she will log on soon :)
Lots of good luck and il look out for your post later xx

Im just wakened (nightshift).
My consultant asked me questions, had a look at my boobs and also took my height and weight. He recommend the type of procedure I would need an told me to lose 5lbs.
I also saw the photographer and he took pixs from diff angles x

Hey so I went in this afternoon to the hospital.  I was extremly nervous but glad it's over now.

I spoke to the doctor who did the general questions as to what the problem was, and then he had to examine me and was taking all these measurements. (I'm going to have to start getting used to strangers seeing my breasts).

He agrees there is asymetry and the nipples are sitting lower than normal proportions (like 2-3cm out) but reckons they aren't tubular shaped.  Maybe I confused extreme drooping with tubular - who knows but will try and get more opinions).

I said where my breasts hang - you would think I have had children and would be much older and made it clear I am in my 20s with NO kids and that they're not normal and don't match my body.

Anyway, he is going to write me a letter explaining my case and the ball is now rolling.  But he has already warned me the board do not take very kindly to this type of funding and to be prepared for the worst.

I'm going to start saving now and start looking privately also.  The doctor suggested I get a maxopexy and change where the nipple sits, and that I wouldn't need an implant, but I would like to get more opinions.

So glad to have been now.  Going to start booking consultations elsewhere and do more research and look at how much this is all going to cost me.

:)

Aww good... Yet you do get used to showing people your boobs lol... Not the best experience!! At least like you said the balls rolling... Glad it went ok!
I think seeing other surgeons is a good idea to be honest so you can get different opinions and once you've been to a few then you will know what the best option for you is...
Eg I have been told overs by 3 and another surgeon said either so therefore I ruled out the surgeon that said unders lol :)

Looking forward to following your story now though and I'm glad you joined :) xx

Ah your England aren't you. We dont have a PCC up in Scotland.
Glad your ball has started to roll :-)
Nhs route is a long drawn out process. I have 4months to lose 5lbs and they'll go from there.
I felt mine went really well ye, although my consultant is a creepy lookin guy lol. Ye well he has said hes happy to do my surgery as I have significant asymmetry and tuberous breasts.

You'll get used to people seeing your boobs, my photographer had a wonky eye that pointed other direction! So I has creepy consultant an wonky eyed photographer haha! Just my luck x

Victoria - yes I'm down in England. In London!
Why do you have to lose 5lbs? In my opinion that is not a lot to lose. Do they obsess over the whole Body Mass Index thing?

I wish I had a photographer today, then they could see how extreme mine are and it would help my case.

I felt like the doctor fobbed me off a bit tbh. It was a very hard experience getting my breasts out for a stranger and he wasn't sympathetic at all :( Anyway I will see how it goes x

Coz of my bmi is 28 im 5lbs over the 27 mark and they ask for it to be 27. Im 5ft 8 an 12 stone 12...ive put stone n half on in last few months.

Its totally different down there because of the pcc whereas up here its consultant surgeon and a psychologist who decide.

Thats the worst part. Getting your boobs out. I had the unit sister in with me but she looked at me not my boobs.

Im sure your next apt will go fine :-) x

Its never a comfortable situation having to get your boobs out for a stranger. Especially when you have issues with your breasts that you wouldn't even openly reveal to those you love Hug

I sincerely hope you get the funding kc and wish you all the best babe. X
