Anyone had removal of breast implants?

Post by Ms K on 25th November 2011, 2:55 am

Hi, I had my BA two years ago and had a very positive experience with good results. Recently i have started to think about having them removed. I have feelings that I haven't been true to myself and should have stayed as nature made me. They also feel quite heavy at times and instead of feeling more sexy, i feel the opposite because i feel fake.

Has anyone had theirs removed? Did you have to have the nipple moved and was there much baggy skin that had to be removed too? What kind of cost am i looking at for this procedure? I went through Transform for my BA and i've been on their web site but i can't find anythiing about implant removal.

Thanks for reading x

I have only just had my BA and am loving the results, so can't imagine ever wanted them removed. So I have no advice, but wanted to say that you shouldn't feel fake, as you have every right to do what you want to make you feel sexy and you are still being true to yourself. Have you only just begun to feel like this lately, or have you felt this way from the beginning?

I too have only go through the ba, so dont really have much advice, i dont think you should be feeling fake, at the time of making your decision you felt that this was the best for you so im sure you made the right decision, has anybody recently said or done anything to you that has made you feel this way?

I can't advise on the op I'm afraid but understand your dilemma.

I do have this slight niggle in the back of my mind that is telling me I should stay as nature intended but I have justified it to myself as I am only putting back the boobs I had when I was heavier.

People dye their hair, wear make up etc none of that is au natural, i think if you can enhance yourself to the full there is nothing wrong with that! xx

There are different factors involved with how your breasts will look when you have them removed. Some women only need to have them removed, others need the skin tightened and a lift. It depends on your skin elasticity, what size implants you have, and what your breasts were like to start with for instance.

Peronally I would advise that you go to a BAAPS/BAPRAS registered surgeon. I would look for one who has experience with explantation, fixing botched jobs and reconstruction because you may need more than just implant removal, and need reshaping depending on your circumstances. This involves more skill and experience than a straightforward BA. You may want small breasts again, but you still want them to look nice.

I'm sorry you feel this way, is this recent or have you felt like this for a while now? I know that at some point women with implants have to think about either replacement or removal, but this is usually after much more than two years. One of my friends has had the same implants for 17 years now. She plans on replacing them at some point but would like to have kids first.

Another friend of mine initially went too big, so had them replaced with smaller ones. And another one has had hers for over 13 years, and plans on removing them soon and getting a lift instead of having them replaced. She says they're just not what she wants anymore, and wants smaller natural breasts again. xxx

Hi many thanks for all your replies. Its only recently i guess i've started feeling like this. I know they will have to be either replaced or removed at some point and i'm approaching 40 now, so for some reason it bothers me, the thought of having further surgery when i'm older. I do like having boobs and i did have a really good result, but they are heavy. I think i had 420's, can't be sure. I was an empty 34b before hand, so if they were removed, without any further uplift, i think i would have floppy skin for boobs!! not a nice thought.

If you still prefer having larger boobs than your original size minus the heaviness, you could get a reop for smaller implants? Though you would still need a future surgery to replace or remove implants again in the future. I wouldn't rush into anything if you've started to feel this way only lately, you might change your mind again.

Skin will most likely need tightening if you remove them, but with a good surgeon it shouldn't be a problem. This is an example of explantation with mastopexy: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I feel the same way and had a consultation today. I'm going to go with smaller implants as I think the shock of taking them out would be too great for me as it's been over a decade and 2 kids later.

As the previous lady said, you'll need some reconstruction to give them their shape back.

I know how you feel about wanting to go 'natural' again. The best of luck with whatever you decide.
