I had exactly the same - got a letter dated the 10th August I think it was, telling me my BA day was on August 25th. I just told my bosses I was having an operation and that I'd been on the waiting list for a while and they were very understanding - they have been great about it considering how short the notice was and the fact I've been signed off work now until Sept 20th!
