Post by kcblue25 1st September 2013, 10:04 pm

Hey ladies!

I posted on here a while back about going to my GP about having a BA done on the NHS as I feel my breasts are an extreme case. This was back in May/June time this year.

I had a copy of my referal letter sent to me a week after but have heard nothing back.

Anyone on here who has had their surgery approved on the NHS - how long did it take for you to hear back from the initial hospital appointment?

Is it right for me to contact my GP now?  Or shall I just assume I was unsuccessful?

Quite disappointed tbh.  It was a seriously brave thing for me to go to the GP in the first place and I haven't been on the forums here as waiting to hear back but it's really knocked my confidence even more.  I kind of feel rejected :(

Has this happened to anyone else or am I suffering alone?

I have no personal experience of the NHS KC but didnt want to read and run babe...

I should imagine if your referral had been rejected you would have been informed either by letter or via your GP babe.

If it were me in your shoes I'd make an appointment with your GP and ask that they chase the referral up for you.

Good luck sweetness. Hug

Thanks Cookie - I will get onto the phone this week if I can.  My GP system has changed at the moment where I cannot make an appointment anymore - I have to request a phone call back and then they decide if I need to come in or not.

Fingers crossed - if not expect another thread very soon about advice for saving up (I think I need an implant a lift and a nipple reconstruction so am guessing 7k)

Hi kcblue, I think You should contact your gp, see if he can help you chase it up and tell him how much it's upsetting you... It's their job to look after their patients !!

Hope it does go well though and either way like cookie said wether its NHS or private we will be here to support you :) xx

I haven't been approved just yet. But from my initial gp appointment it took a week for hospital to send me out letter with appointment 7 weeks later. I now hav another in just over month and a half to see him again.

Definitely call up your gp and find out what the hold up is x

Hiya
I know exactly how you feel with waiting for appointments going down the NHS route. From going to see my GP in April 2012 – exactly 12 months to the date of having my little boy (you have to wait 12 months after giving birth before your even considered), I got a letter from the Hospital in June 2012 stating that I was on a waiting list for an appointment to see the Psychiatrist, which btw is 16 months long…. eeek L!. I eventually got a letter in March 2013 with an appointment to see the Psychiatrist in May 2013. I went for my app in May and Psychiatrist referred me to see one of the surgeons. This appointment is 10 th September 2013. Phew… hope all that makes sense? So I am 1 week away from an app with a Surgeon who I think will have the final say if I get the go ahead or not. April 2012 to September 2013 –17 months so far to get to this stage. Very long road to go down – and not one I would recommend. If financially I had the option of going private – I so would. The NHS route – in my opinion – adds much much more stress to a very delicate situation – as you, I’m sure are already experiencing. But hang on in there –I’ve read so many girls stories on these pages where things have worked out well in the end and there all now in a much better place. Good luck chick x

I’m with the girls in saying – go back to your GP – chase things up – out of sight – out of mind. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you

Depending on where you are waiting lists can be weeks, months, or years. It won't hurt to  ring your gp and see where it's at. I went before I had my baby got accepted then fell pregnant (very very long process), and then when she was 3months, surgery is in 3days now so she will be 7months   when I have them done. Just try and not pin everything you have on it, surgeons can only recommend a ba, but they don't have the 'final say' the PCT do, they control the nhs funding for your area, and unless they are satisfied you meet every single criteria then they won't approve. Good luck on your journey xxx

HI, i have my BA on the NHS.

I waited 5 days from my appointment at the with the GP to see the surgeon.

Then waited 6 month for my surgery date to come through for the following week.

I contacted the hospital many times and each time told there are cut backs so i would be contacted when it was my turn basically.

Hope this helps.  x
