Breast cancer post augmentation

Post by derbylou on 18th June 2011, 8:58 pm

Hi Everyone

Since having my implants last November have been diagnosed with breast cancer last week, after finding a lump in the top of my left breast.

I have to go back to the hospital for MRI scans of my breasts next week, but they have already told me that I will require a wide local exision (lumpectomy) or mastectomy. This has obviously been an absolute bombshell to me, but I am hoping that there will be good news from the scan.

Has anyone had any experience of either a lumpectomy or mastectomy who have previously had implants? Would love to know girls experiences who have had breast cancer subsequent to breast augmentation and how they got on, results of operations etc.

I am hoping that I am offered a lumpectomy and that they can preserve my implants (I have been told that they would be taken out during the operation to remove the lump and replaced).

Just hoping for the best right now and that my long term health will be OK. But obviously I am hoping that having gone through breast augmentation and being so pleased with my new boobs - that post cancer surgery I can get the best possible cosmetic result too.

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give.

Lou xxxxxxxx

Dear Derbylou

I am ever so sorry to hear this and I hope everything goes okay for you.

Just yesterday I was thinking about breast cancer and I was actually going to post asking if you are able to feel for lumps as effectively after having a BA. So I am very surprised and saddened to see your post this morning.

It will be interesting to read any replies you receive on this.

All the best to you xxx

Just wanted to send you a hug, as like gorgeousgirl, I have no advice I'm afraid, but couldn't leave without saying something.

Great to see you being so positive and staying strong, although it's so hard to do I really think it's the best thing you can do. I think it really can make a lot of impact on the healing process- physically and mentally.

We have a lot of cancer in the family so it's always something I think about and will be reading up on that topic.

So good luck in the coming months and so sorry to hear such sad news.

I'm so sorry to hear that, again like the others I haven't had to deal with this, but a friend of mine is currently under going treatment for breast cancer.
She didnt have implants, but they removed the lump, and replaced the tissue with tissue from under her arms and inserted an implant to give the breast the same look as the other. SHe loves the result so much, that when she is finished all her treatment is going to have the other one done.
Her cancer isn't hormonal, otherwise they would have done the two breasts at the same time.

Thoughts are with you xxxx

Thanks girls for all your positive comments. I am trying to be strong and the support from others really helps at this time. Just want the next week or so to be over until I know a bit more about what I am dealing with, but hopefully it will be some good news.

Thanks again everyone xxxxxxx
