Not sure what's happening....
Hi Everyone
I'm new here after someone told me to have a look from another *cough* forum!
I have been extremely unhappy with my breasts since I can remember. I'm quite tall and curvy yet I am almost flat chested (An A cup bra has gaps) and they appear mis-shapen and tubular. I've never had a proper relationship or many male friends as I can't bear to be ridiculed or to let a relationship get far enough that I may be expected to show them my body. I also rarely go out in social situations where I would be expected to wear more revealing clothes i.e clubbing/bars/swimming etc. as the embarrassment gets the better of me and I feel like I have nowhere to hide. Clothes shopping is a nightmare and I pretty much always wear a bra, even at night to disguise the shape.
I'm a student and have tried to go down the private route but because I haven't got a regular income, no-one will give me a loan or a finance option so I'm stuck.
My mum suggested going to my GP which I did two weeks ago and he was really sympathetic and referred me immediately to a Plastic Surgeon in my area (East Midlands) and told me that I should have an appointment in a few weeks and then providing the surgeon and then a psychologist agree, I could have the surgery on the NHS.
Obviously this was like sunlight to me as I never dreamed he would even refer me but since then I've been reading other peoples stories and it sounds much much harder and unlikely than my doctor made out. He is usually very thorough but he didn't mention anything about applying for funding or the PCT so now I'm terrified that I've got my hopes up for something that doesn't have a chance in hell :(

Hiya hunnie, I had great big wet bloppers in my eyes reading your message but at least you now have a foot on the road to putting everything right. Yes, the NHS will apparently make you jump through a few hoops -but it sounds like you have a GP who will be really supportive in helping you achieve your dream and I am sure that he knows how he must deal with the application for funding.
I do wish you all of the very, very best hun and here's a hug to make you feel slightly better
xx

Hiya and welcome. Even if this takes a while, it will be worth the wait and if you stay with us you'll be able to share both your highs and lows and everyone elses highs and lows. Because as enjoyable as it is in the end, think we all go on a rollercoaster to get there. xxx

(((hugs)))
If private isnt an option and its distressing you and affecting your life so badly, then youve got nothing to lose by trying the NHS route.
It can be long and drawn out, but if they say yes, then it will all be worth it x

Thanks everyone for your replies, it means a lot to know there are supportive people out there :)
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and resisting the urge to camp out underneath the letterbox!
I'll definitely keep you posted - no pun intended...

Re: Not sure what's happening....
Hi - the absolutely biggest thing you have going for you is a supportive GP. You need to make sure you keep close to him, see him after your consultation & he will have to fight your corner with you at the PCT - he will be a real asset to you (scuse the pun!). You will have to jump through a number of hoops but your should definitely stick at it - good luck xx

Thanks for the support everyone :)
I will update my situation as soon as I have any news. It feels very strange to be almost excited yet filled with horror at the thought of having to be examined....
Apparently the surgeon I'm seeing is very nice and puts you at ease so that's good at least.
Best wishes for your surgery Olivia!
