I hated sleeping upright aswell, its just impossible to get comfortable!! I was told to sleep upright, then at my post op appointment a week after my BA, the nurse told me to sleep however is comfortable, as long as it is still on my back.. so maybe wait until a week after your op?
so thats 4 days to go chick...
did everything else go ok with your op?

I was never told to sleep upright, just propped up so my head and shoulders are elevated. I managed this for 13 nights as instructed. They want you to do this to help reduce the swelling in your boobs which will mean faster healing

Yeah, I didn't mean completly upright, I mean 4pillows and my v pillow. Faster healing sounds good, but 13nights...WOW! Your back must have killed. Suppose its all worth it in the end though. Problem is, I have inflamed hip joints, which affects my back anyway so it hurts a lot more than it usually would. I just really hope I get told I can sleep flat at my 1week checkup on friday! Fingers crossed!!!! Thanks for your answers and advice girls x

Fingers crossed for you hun, hope you can sleep normally after a week too, I do tend to suffer with a bad back anyway, so it was quite painfull. I found that getting up when it was aching and walking about helped, but when it really hurt I took pain killers and put a hot water bottle on my lower back which helped ease off the pain. Also my posture during the day was very bad, I didn't realise I was walking like a hunch back until my mum told me to stand up straight, when I realised what I was doing when standing and sitting down it helped with back ache during the day by making a concious effort to check my posture. But deffo reccomend a hot water bottle.

I'm not sure how long I'm supposed to be sleeping elevated, but I cant wait to return to my fetal position. My post op appt is on Thursday...Cant wait!!! dance Are you still tight? I can feel that I'm starting to loosen up a bit, but its still awkward. Sounds like you're healing up nicely though congrats

4 pillows and a V pillow!... You'll be fine to ditch two of those pillows hun so that only your head and shoulders are raised as misf1 says. You might find it more comfy to use the extra to pillows for under your arms, creating a kind of reclining armchair effect and a pillow under your knees will help take the strain from your hips sweetness.

A hot water bottle in the small of your back will help LOADS too hun. Most of us have experienced this gorgeous... it's just part of the process to getting your lovely new boobs! xx

Hi im 8 day post op and like the other have said 2 pillows are fine and i put a small sofa cushion in the small of my back and although i seem to wake dead on 5.30 most mornings i feel i`ve had a solid sleep upto that. I spoke to my nurse on day 5 and asked her when i could sleep on my side, she said anytime it`s not uncomfortable they wont go anywhere, they make the pocket the perfect size dont worry. As it happens it`s not comfy enough to do this yet but it stopped me worrying about my postion. I hope you sleep well soon, not nice when you put going to bed off as long as poss is it. xxx

I wasn't told to sleep upright, just propped up so my head and shoulders are elevated. This does help to reduce the swelling in your boobs which will mean quicker healing, I went for my first post op check at 10 days and my nurse told me it was ok to lay flat....so it wasn't too long babe.

A pillow or maybe even two, under your knees (as Cookie) said is a great way to stop yourself from sliding back down the bed :-)

I had my 1st week check today and asked about this too. My PS told me that after the initial night you can sleep normally.

He said the reason its recommended is as it stops you from rolling on to your side in your sleep. So going from what my PS said, we're good to lay flat as long as we feel happy that we wont roll over.

Although I have to say, I find it more comfy with a few extra pillows, like the girls say to keep my shoulders up a bit. But I'd say good sleep is important for healing so if its bothering you so much it wakes you up you'd prob be better losing a few pillows.

Hi girls, if you roll up a towel like a sausage lol, and place this at your lower back when you are propped up this may help any sore backs. I did this from day one luckily have been ok and back been fine. Its funny when we talk about sleeping upright I thought it was really sleeping sitting up. My hospital told me to just make sure I was on a 30 deg incline and that was enough. (whatever that means lol) but I miss my fetal position curled into a ball
xx

meeee toooooo ;( I'm ready to be back to normal. I went out and bought this expensive wedge pillow just for this occassion, should've saved the money for sure but I guess it'll make reading in bed a lil easier, lol
