First night nerves!

First night nerves!
Having my op in 6 days time and really nervous about the night in hospital.
Have not spent a night alone without my husband and worried I'll be up all night unable to sleep and in pain, especially as having to sleep propped up on my back.
How did you girls cope on your first night? xxx

Re: First night nerves!
WOW your date has just sneaked up on us hasn't it!
You won't even think about it hun... your visitors can stay until about 9pm and you'll still be recovering from the effects of the GA and will have strong painkillers in your system so you're pretty much out of it, you'll be in and out of sleep all night and you'll be having your blood pressure checked throughout the night and given reassurance all is going OK so you'll be fine hun, before you know it you're being discharged the next day! xx

Re: First night nerves!
You'll be fine hun. I joked that it would be nice to have a rest (my son was 11 months at the time) anyway as Cookie said i was checked constantly through the night so i didn't get rest or a lie in.....lol. I drifted in & out of sleep & watched TV when i felt like it. It was actually nice just to lie there. I did take some magazines but never bothered with them, i preffered to lie back & Chill. Oh i remember too there was an old chap in having something done (not sure what) but it was hir 90th birthday! So i kept hearing happy birthday songs asi drfited in & out of sleep it was so sweet. I wanted to get up & say it to him myself but there was no way that was going to happen....lol
My Hubs & son popped in a few times to see me (they can visit when ever you want them too) which was nice, my son covered his sticky hands over the plasma tv.....lol.
Mrs Kat is brill by the way :good: I am chuffed to bits x

Oh thanks Cookie x
Thats very reassuring. It has seemed a long time waiting for my op date to arrive, but now its getting close and the butterflies starting. I feel a bit better about that first night now xxx
and thanks Stephy xxx. I remember you also had Mrs Kat and good to hear you are so pleased with her. I guess its normal to be worried and have to admit I've been worrying about the GA, but I know things very rarely go wrong these days with it, but still a little nervous xxx.

Oh not long now hun! how exciting :)
As cookie said you will be dozing in and out of it all day/night, i had no trouble sleeping as the GA knocks you about... I spent the day sleeping and the night was spent in a hotel (as I had day surgery) and I only woke up when mum woke me to take more pain killers, then i was straight back to sleep :) trust me you will be fine lovely and no doubt ur husband will be there bright and early to see you in the morning xx

The time flys by honestly I went all by myself when I had my ba and although having someone with me would of been nice I loved the time on my own to just chill before my op and after I was so out of it I just slept. You'll be fine chick. xx

Re: First night nerves!
Hiya, I really hate hospitals, and opted for a day case as the thought of having to stay in over night was enough to put me off. On the actual day my blood pressure was too low for me to come home, and I couldnt beleive how relieved I was to not have to get out of bed and leave. My husband stayed with me until quite late I had a few tears when he left me but once he had actaully gone I was fine. During the night I woke up loads having blood pressure taken and I had a drip that they kept topping up. I bashed the needle in my hand a few times through the night too and I have to say that was more painful than pain from the actaul op. Hope that hekps a little xx

Re: First night nerves!
I did the whole thing by myself, I didn't want to but have 3 young children so my other half was at home with them. it was fine, they came and checked my blood pressure a few times through the night, and if I didn't feel like sleeping again straight away I had the tv on and ate some of the snacks I brought, or went to the mirror to look at my new boobies :teehee: and I was up doing my make up at about 6am.
I wasnt in pain at all but started getting a bit uncomfortable in the night so I asked for pain relief (to keep on top of it), you'll be well looked after and your hubby will be there to collect you in the morning before you know it. xx
