Query - bra measurement

Post by silversally on 13th October 2010, 5:39 am

Hi girls

I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and had 410cc overs. I was a 34a/aa before and am now in a D cup sports bra. dance

Last night, I thought I'd measure myself to see what bra I would eventually need, and, following the internet on how to measure, tops up I'm only a 34b! shrug Yet, the cup size on my sports bra is slightly too small and am more comfortable in a DD.

What I don't get is why? I thought I was going to be buying D cup bras! There's plenty of boob there, which I am thrilled with, but I'm confused and disappointed with the measurements. :dunno:

Seriously those online measuring tools are next to useless!! You are better off going along to a good bra shop and getting measured BUT I see you are only 2.5wks post op, your boobs could change yet, you might find that you go down a back size but up a cup size!? Try to hang on as long as you can......with 410's I would guess you'd end up a D or DD. x

Step away from the online calculaters! They're rubbish, I think they make me a 34C, which is actually what I was wearing sometimes before my BA, I think I'm more like an F or more now on the cup, and a 32 on the band...

If you're in a D sports bra I bet you'll be more than a D when you're actually measured for a proper bra thumbs up

Hi Silversally, I wouldn't follow those internet sites advice on measuring yourself hun. You are obviously not in a b cup if you're wearing a d cup sports bra. Just hang on in there and wait till about 6 weeks then go and get measured in a shop. xx

the online calculators use an old fashioned way of measuring.

A more accurate way is measure your under bust/rib cage. That is your band size (in inches) You may have to go up one inch if its an odd number.
Then measure your bust at the fullest part and calculate the difference between the two sizes. Each inch difference is a cup size.

It might not be completely exact due to different shops and different bras seem to be sized a bit randomly, but that will be roughly the size youll be, or near it.

online calculators have me as a 34b and i am wearing a 32e. they are total rubbish and based on an old fashioned system. give your boobs time to settle and then get fitted into a bra. i know it's frustrating and all you want to know is what size you are but patience is a virtue with a BA.

Arrhh!! Ok. Well I just measured 28" under the bust and 34.5" over the fullest part, lets round it off to 34" because my right boob is rock solid and probably adds an extra half an inch Hysterical I am currently wearing a 32" band which I think is possibly too big (checking out the measuring tips on the Bravissimo site) Maybe I am 'already' more like a 30E instead of a 32DD!? LOL!!! all this measuring lark is such a mind field!!

Aww! Thanks for all your replies. I do feel as if I should be a D and at worst a C. I'll try and be patient, but god it's so exiting!!!!

I have a small mirror in my desk at work which is usually positioned so I can see my face - just in case I get any biscuit crumbs round my chops, but now I've got it positioned so I can see my boobies and I look at them all day long! Yay!! Cheerleader

aw man!
i am well confused now. i am 27'' around my ribcage. 34'' around fullest part of boobie do's. the lady in m&s said i should wear a 32'' band size (cos 27 is an uneven number - so to add 5)?????
i'm wearing an m&s 32d at the moment. also i wear 32dd la senza. cor, do you lot think i should try a 30'' band? would it add a cup size?!! lol

i would definitely go down at least one band size if not two.
My ribs meausure 29 and I wear a 30 band. A 32 slips up my back, so i dont see how a 32 would be giving you enough support. If youre wearing the right cup size, then that back size will give you the best support.
You can get those sizes in bravissimo and debenhams.

if youve only just had your op you might need to have a bigger bandsize to accomodate swelling. Im a 30 but went up to a 34 with the swelling. Also it depends on the brand of sports bra as I think shock absorber use the old fashioned measurement system where you add 4.
